@TWTaco Did an amazing job with my Tune. The truck shifts, accelerates, and all around feels healthier. Dave is a great dude to just chat with as well. Thanks @TWTaco !

    Eibach stage 1 -wheeler’s 2” aal-spc uca’s FN 5 Star w/Falken Rubitrek AT 265/70r17. Nitro 4:88’s KDMax tuned Leer 100r
    Update- towing+ 4:88’s

Now have ~1000 miles on the KDMax tune and ~500 miles on the LT version. Mucho thanks again to @Phich for getting me tuned and then switched to the LT version. Do prefer the light tip in with my 4:88’s (A/T) and 32” tires.

Towing (~1600# boat/trailer) is great and didn’t need ect at all. I’m mostly on flat highway and tow in S-5 which works great with the 4:88’s. Does not gear hunt and does not drop to 4th on overpasses. Cruises around 2350 rpm in 5th at 68mph with the 4:88’s......great rpm to hold 5th when towing! I do get better mpg towing compared to stock 04B33.

Not towing in D (drive) mpg’s... depends on wind which can be ridiculous around here. But, no gear hunt or drop to 5th gear on overpasses when cruising 75mph. I’m at ~2300 rpm in 6th gear at 75mph. If I’m bucking a stiff wind (20+mph) it’ll sometimes drop to 5th on a bigger overpass or hill but right back to 6th when cresting. Hard to compare mpg to stock because of how much more fun it is to drive after being tuned! The “go” pedal actually works very very good now and the longer gear hold is just so much better for staying in the powerband. I’m at least as good as stock mpg and driving a lot more spiritedly!

This tune is damn near perfect for what I need and expect from my Tacoma. I have not experienced any weird anomalies with KDMax. It did take me some time to adjust and seemed to get better with more miles. This is how this truck should perform from the factory as far as I’m concerned! Huge improvement from stock and 04B33 and works great with the 4:88’s!

Glad the boat and the tune go well together, Brett! I am getting to do my first tow on KDMax on Monday up to Lost Maples for a couple days of alone time with a fishing pole in my hand

Down in your neck of the woods again on the 28th for the saltwater fishing. Happy surfing bud and thanks for the follow-up review!

2020 Tacoma in for an updated TSB and the KDMax 6.0 Performance Tune. Again, seeing complaints with shifting and power in the stock calibration.

Took time to explain the procedure and as always using best practices for flashing both the TSB and new Calibration.

Typical test drive with the client laughing when just leaving the driveway.. He was so pleased with the results and so were we..
We monitored AFR's, Knock, Torque Converter Locking, Shift Points, All Temperatures and Ignition Advance to name just a few.. The truck loved the tune...

Just got the 87 KDMax LT from @MGMSangTaco! All I can say is WOW! I had about a 80 mile drive back and It was great on the drive home.

I Could actually use the radar cruise control without it having a panic attack when I hit a small hill. Sat comfortably at 80 most of the way home. HUGE improvement.

I can actually pass people without feeling like I need a mile of space for the truck to figure which gear it wants to be in to accelerate. This really should be how the truck is stock.

When I upgraded to a 17' Tacoma DCLB OR two weeks ago, I instantly recognized issues with the truck that many have complained about here. Issues I did not experience with my 16' 2wd AC. My thought is that the extra weight of this truck and the longer wheel base changes the driving characteristics a lot, and in ways that I did not enjoy.

This afternoon @HCFR TACO22 stopped by my house and gave my truck the KDMAX tune up special. First we tried SLT, then bumped up to the LT tune. I like this tune a lot. If anyone needs tuning assistance in the Tampa, FL area I highly recommend him. He is super professional, easy to talk to, solid person to do business with.

No more coasting at super low RPM which creates a lugging or shudder effect. The truck holds gear where it needs to if you are stable on the throttle. When I want it to downshift all I have to do is ease off the throttle just a hair and it does it. The truck just drives better all around. I don't want it dropping to 6th gear when I'm doing 45. If I wanted that I would have bought a Corolla.

The only thing I might change is going to a 91/93 octane tune. I run non-ethanol in my truck. @PapaRee What are the salient differences between the 87 vs 91/93 tunes. Is the performance better? I'm happy with the truck now with this tune, and the risk of me going to a place without high octane fuel is present but very low. That being said, if going to a 91/93 tune will give it more balls, I'm all about it.

Anybody had a trouble code P0128 come up since getting the Kdmax 6.0 tune? It came up for me yesterday. But the truck was running fine and at normal temp. I cleared the code last night and it didn’t come back on today. However I noticed this morning my temp gauge was all over the place. Not running hot at all. Just trying to figure out what’s going on.

I have not heard of any reports but it certainly sounds thermostat/cooling related. The tune isn't targeting and cooling settings and to my knowledge doesn't have the ability to.

That said I think monitoring closely is a good idea and checking out the health of the cooling system would be my first recommendation.

We can also plan a meetup to get you back to stock. I would say it will have no effect on the outcome but I am willing to do what I can as needed to help eliminate and factors.

Perhaps some other folks can offer code specific responses that can help so I'm here as needed and will watch for anything coming across.
