Is there a reason modern trucks don't come with fully sealed frames to prevent rust?

why would you go to a heavier frame if you aren't prepared to put a V8 or a V6 in it. Makes no sense.

I think that is already confirmed as they will be sharing the platform across many vehicles to save money, guessing the 4th Gen will be a 4 cylinder turbo.

The Frontier shares the Titan Frame so it seems like a pretty common practice.

I wonder if they’re going to turbo charge the 2TR or some derivative of it for the 4G Tacoma. Add in hybrid tech for on-demand, instantaneous electric torque and it might kick ass.

yeah, but the V6 in the frontier has more hp and torque than the Taco. And the Frontier likely has a lot less sound deadening if the pro4x I drove is any indication. The frontier feels like a clunky rattle trap inside. No comparison to the Taco.

I think the Frontier 4.0 made less HP but more torque than our trucks, but yeah they are quite primitive in comparison.

maybe better gearing as well. The one I drove could spin the tires off the line. The only way you are doing that in a Taco is if it's a manual and you dump the clutch.

Lets hope the final choice for the new drivetrain isn't worse.

I don't think that is correct, l could swear l remember seeing the Ridgeline engine sit side to side, however l might be confusing it with something else.

Well you are wrong. I live in Buffalo NY and the "sandwiched" frames rust out bad here, Tacomas don't even make it 10 years untreated.
A 3/16" (instead of 1/8" sandwiched) frame would be the best option for corrosion, and would barely increase weight of the frame.
It's not just the salty roads, its the condensation from the wet environment.
I have PTSD from precipitation lol.

Here's poof, this is what happens, this frame was replaced by Toyota and was 7 years old at time of video (1G Tundra, same design as Tacoma 2nd/3rd)

From what i watched i wouldn't do what the video recommended mixing different products over each other. Its not likely to dry getting easily washed away. You want to encapsulate rust when trying to stop it.

a transverse mount is side to side. It’s a FWD vehicle with an AWD option that they pretend is 4WD. The GR motor the other person was referring to is a transverse mount in a Camry but a front to rear mount in a Tacoma. The Tacoma is RWD with 4WD option.

You're apparently the one with a gigantic brain (your words). To think frame flex makes it better in "every single metric" shows your lack of understanding.
I'm not even arguing against C-channel, I am arguing against excessive frame flex, and it's negative effects on ride and handling and chassis composure at speed.

Guess you'll have to pass on the next Tundra and Tacoma, boxed frames all around brain

I never saw a toyota yet owned, and driven a normal amount in the northeast that didn't have some good amount of rust when not treated....even after 3-4 years.

A short answer to the OP's question.

No need for fully boxed frame.

Reason: Materials, design and load analysis have advanced to remove weight helping vehicles meet the EPA Fleet Fuel Efficiency mandates from the Federal Government while meeting the Crash Worthiness Requirements.

These mandates have led to extensive use of aluminum and plastics to reduce weight. Structure based on analysis of impact loads have led to better crush zones increasing the surviveability of frontal impacts.

Complain and grump all you want. Vehicle design is heavily mandated by Govt for fuel efficiency and surviveability.

Rust is a force of nature and it will happen. Deloren tried a Stainless Steel body.....although they plopped it on Fiat running gear. It wasn't a big seller.
