You’re assuming the customers are not given the option. Vast majority of people paying to have their truck tuned are 1 and done. Especially if the tuner lets them test drive multiple tunes. **Edit** the fact most tunes are 1 and done is also a testament to how good of a tool vF is.

Offer a customer Tune A for $X00 or that same Tune A for $X60 with a VIN registration and let me know which one they pick. People will save $60 now vs. the possibility of saving $60 in the future.

I expect once OV2.0 Ultimate, vF 1.3, Tundra and 4Runner vfc files come out you’ll see a surge of credit purchases and VIN registrations.

As far as the vin data base , I would be more worried about the EPA wanting the data base if the EPA wanted to go after users that are running a tune on the road. Does your data show what tune a vehicle is tuned to at any given time ?
Another concern is do you have a plan as to what happens to the 10,000 tuned customers if something happens to you or your business ( heaven forbid)and tuning could no longer be done because a vin could not be verified during a tuning attempt.

My Tacoma unfortunately went to Tacoma heaven thanks to a GMC Denali with a uhaul trailer.

On that note, can you flash back to stock if something like this arose?

If you're providing the option then what I'm talking about doesn't apply to you.

A VIN doesn't say what's on the car, who owned it when it was licensed, etc etc.

I've been doing this long enough to know more than people who just started tuning a few months ago

Boy, this thread sure deviated from the OP, haha. Welcome to Tacoma World! My VIN is somewhere in there due to the Flash Kit purchase but hasn’t been licensed or anything yet that I know of. But it doesn’t bother me one way or another. I doubt Toyota will ever seek or care to know about a 5 year old 80K mile Taco they never see in their shops, lol.

Personally I’ve been happy with 2.0 Base over the factory 2016 tune. But I’d love to try KDMax and plan to do so once the “Flash N’ Log” VFTuner licenses are sent out hopefully next week (2020 Flash Kit owner here). Mostly interested in how cruise control behaves vs 2.0, as mine drops to 4th at the sight of a tiny, still pretty flat, Kansas hill. But if CC is not engaged, it’s fine and will stay in 5th no problem. So it seems to be something with the cruise control logic and pedal position in cruise vs actually using the pedal.

Very interested to see 2.0 Ultimate Map Switch Final however and I’d expect improvements to just about everything 2.0 base had going for it.

Next week could be a fun week!

I am not sure what you are talking about but if you are thinking I am a back alley tuner you are wrong . I can say with all honesty that I will never even consider tuning any truck other than my own . I helped a good friend out a long time ago with his own kit but that was in the dongle days because he had no knowledge of computers , he no longer even has a Toyota.

I have great respect for your talent for what you can do with tuning and your VFtuner creation . Customer service is another story and has been discussed more than a few times over the years , I applaud you for realizing that no one can do it all . My knowledge of tuning is of changing out a carburetor , setting points and changing out a condenser , adjusting timing with a light and such. I looked at maybe changing some settings in VFtuner but said forget it , this is not for me . Every time I have to change a tune on my truck I am afraid it is going to fail in one way or another , because I will do something wrong .
I have only tuned mine 2 times in the last year or so as I wait for your ultimate tunes .
After that , I will most likely never tune it again but want to be sure I can go back to stock if for any reason I have to .I plan on my 2016 being the last truck I own and may need to get back to stock 10 or 15 years from now but realize this may or may not be possible . Because of this ,I still have my purple dongle with a separate dedicated laptop , PCM stock file and the last time I checked , a working dongle FM . I feel I should put it in a faraday cage lol.
Finding out that your data base does not have any info as to what is on the truck eases my mind , thank you for that answer. I will update to 1.3 and register my vin at that time and not worry .

I am not saying anyone here is, honestly. I don't even know who you guys are by usernames.

Also no company would be mentioned publicly anyway.

I am not out to "get" anyone.

How much better is this than VT 2.0? I am super unhappy with it but I don't want to pay another $300 if this is just a placebo tune like someone mentioned earlier in the thread.

Reach out to one of the tuners. Did you load it yourself or have it flashed? Do the Coke vs Pepsi challenge. Hit up @TWTaco or @trdquoc

You're quoting someone else. I'm only making general statements. Not naming nor blaming. Take it as you will. The purpose is only to keep people providing services out of a potential sticky situation.

Only time I even make statements is when multiple people email me regarding the same topic. I don't have radar watching what you guys are doing, other people email me because they have their radar on and watching fishy stuff. I'm hands off approached. And actually the hands off, step back approach has given me extra time for the patch and custom feature development which ordinarily takes so much longer.

What I'm saying is others are watching and informing me. When multiple instances of the same stuff happens, I make a generalized statement. When we all succeed we all succeed.

If someone wants to flash on the old software, that's their choice. It may be an expensive choice in the future, but that's their choice. I don't care, I make this statement because it *may* come back to bite you in the wallet. And when I say "you" I'm not saying any specific individual.

I've been doing the tacoma going on 5 years. 1 and done flashes only last as long as until something new comes out. Be prepared.
