    that hotdog, he's good

i'm doing some math here, since i'm bored. correct me if numbers are wrong.

i read the stock fan drains between 5 and 15 horsepower from the engine, depending on stuff like temp of the clutch fluid, engine rpm, ambient air temp, etc.

that fan says it uses 18 amps. 18 amps x 13.8 volts is 245 watts. one horsepower is 745 watts. so it's using about 1/3 of a horsepower, which should be the extra power the alternator needs to make that 245 watts.

so by going to the electric fan, we could put 4 2/3 to 14 2/3 more horsepower to the back of the engine.

    that's a heck of a gain!

best part of it is that extra power would be seen at low RPMs, since that is when the fan is draining the most

I'm not great at math but I like how that sounds too!

I do not have the formulas on hand, but rotating mass should also be taken into consideration. Rotating mass, whether it be in the drivetrain or an internal/external engine component that rotates, has on average 3 times the effect (in ET terms) that dead weight has. I know this from the racing days. If there is a mechanical engineer around, they should be able to throw some more accurate data on the rotating mass.

Thats what i am talking about! As soon as i can get my hands on one of these flex-a-lites, I will be doing the same.

If enough people are interested in this fan, I should be able to get them at W/D. Maybe we could work out a group buy of some sort. First things first, the manufacture has to start churning them out.

I bought my controller for 70.00 and my fan for 85.00. My controller is adjustable from 0F-250F.

Hell of a deal, you cant beat that! I would imagine the W/D on that flex-a-lite is going to be around 260-290. The more i got to thinking about it, with the size and weight of the package a group buy might not be feasible. I will look into though.

@ Cobra: What fan and controller did you buy and where from? I couldn't believe the fan at Summit was $377. OUCH!
