Shorter, Stronger, Half the cost. Direct connection to the rear case, no splines to strip.

Last I heard from customers Marlin isnt shipping them anymore?

Also we can fit 6 speed trans.

Marlin doesn’t make them anymore, nor will they sell you the parts to build it your self. They’ve “stoped production until further notice.” Essentially never making it again.

It's a effective gear ratio doubler before your transfer case which is also a doubler and engages the front drive shaft.

So basically if 4WD Low halves your speed and doubles your torque relatively this does that again so you effectively (not sure if it's double double so 4x or if gears stack so 8x or if it's NxN so fucktouple your torque and reduce your drive speed proportionally.) gain even more torque and lose even more speed for really slow and controlled crawling and decent around trails.

Basically it's a hard core off-roaders mod common to the folks approaching rock buggy or dedicated trail rig level.

Most folks don't ever need one.

I like the idea but also know I can't really justify it so it stays on the radar but probably won't be getting one soon.

No need to gate keep everyone starts somewhere, I'm sure you had to ask what one was your first time as well.

Curious. I don't like the implications of thus however.

Lol you forgot one thing... this box starts you on a path that many of us have been on too many times. You buy this and get 2X more torque. You then start breaking shit so you buy a new rear diff... then you break a shaft and buy a built shaft... then you break the CV joint... then you buy... you know that path of chasing the elusive weak link until finally you break the damn thing that started it and you replace it with bigger and better and start the whole chain again.

Your absolutely right. my apologies to Tacotoast.
My 2nd wheeling truck was a 4 banger tj, eventually 35's and did not re-gear. but went to a dd machine 231 doubler.
That came out of necessity and that is all I'm trying to say, If you need lower gear ratio you know it and you'll know why and this crawl box is a must on my list but so many things come b4 for me anyways...
good point, everyone starts somewhere.

    That too.

    :bananadead:

Though something else to consider for all those who may be on the fence and looking for more information on these quietly lurking, because this lengthens your drivetrain, you have to get custom drive shafts made a shorter one for the rear and a longer one for the front this may actually help your break over angle however by moving the drive shaft pivot point closer to the center of the truck rather than more forward however.

Just something else to consider, unless I stand corrected.

Damn dude, that is the way to take that right on.

    :fistbump:

Except those new guys that their first post is what size tire can I fit with no lift? Give those guys hell even if they're new.

    :bananadead:

That's a beat to death topic and easily searchable with no strange terms like taco box or gear doubler etc.

The challenge for some of us here is education for others. The Tacoma is a popular truck and people from all walks of life buy it. Some of us old timers who have had trucks forever and live off road know things. Many in the new truck ownership crowd have no clue about torque or even basic physics, which explains all the why is my mpg shitty threads.
So, our job is to educate not eviscerate lol.

Correct on torque multiplication, however a point to consider as well is the ability to drive/crawl in a controlled fashion as opposed to excessive throttle to get over an obstacle. Yes, if you pin a wheel down and just carelessly stand on the throttle with stock shafts you will have more torque available to break parts. Same goes for any build though, everything CAN break but your skills as a driver on how you navigate the terrain is the largest determining factor, we're just providing a very useful tool to enhance the abilities.

Heres a link to some videos showing the install and some options for using your current case as the donor or adding another.

    I totally agree...
Most of the time the chase usually starts with horsepower and ends with horsepower lol. Add more power, chase the weak links that break, get all those fixed and decide to add more horsepower and the cycle starts again.

I already apologized, and meant it....

edit: I'll just add lets move on and keep this thread on track. While this crawl box in not slice bread its pretty close to being a great thing, for me its pretty great. It's a need idea, I can't wait to get my hands on it. I just did the fj case swap so this has to get in line with my other planned mods, but I know its going to move up the list very quickly once i see other guys running it...

I understand your sentiment but keep reading, @Windigo made good I called them out too, but they owned it.

They weren't really trying to gate keep they were more so trying to further demonstrate it's nicheness as in if you've never even heard of one you probably don't run in the circles where it's a common thing meaning it may not ever have any impact on your life if it hasn't already, and was more so saving you the effort of having to learn something irrelevant but tone like that is hard to convey especially in text over the internet and they corrected themselves realizing that the internet is a great way for people who don't normally run in those circles to find those obscure circles.

    Myself included.

I don't think your shaft angle will change at all. I'm not familiar with the 3rd gens but I'm assuming the rear shaft is a 2 piece shaft with a carrier bearing. You would only need to shorten the shaft connecting to the transmission. From the carrier bearing to diff would not need to change and if you were to move that back further you may encounter binding in the U joints due to the increased angle. If you had a 1 piece you would be correct.
