With about 2000 miles on it, my 2020's wiring harness was chewed while I was at work by some sort of rodent. It has since been fixed under insurance claim. How many have faced this ? and did they just repair wiring or replace your entire harness ?. One of the techs said the insurance company should have replaced entire harness (over 7 grand) but that most companies will refuse to do this and will only repair the chewed portion.

It's random, I've rarely seen insurance cover it, but most often its the knock sensor harness under the intake.

Claims say that the harness has soy in it that attracts the starving mice.

They need to quit making the damn thing delicious to critters. Seriously, how hard can that be? I’ve had it happen twice to my Tundra.

The third one linked above was me. Happened last summer after owning the truck for only about six months.

Insurance paid for the entire main harness to be replaced. The guy who replaced it said normally they would have just taken it out, repaired it, and reinstalled but my air bag wire was damaged so policy is to replace at that point.

Insurance covered it without a fight.

Did the carfax check on my 19 OR before I purchased it and the previous owner had the hungry rodent problem also.

There are old school mouse traps with peanut butter set year round in my garage, I use peppermint essential oil soaked cotton balls above my cabin filter, and I shoot every squirrel and chipmunk I see.

I still feel lucky I haven't had any under hood intruders with all the horror stories on this site alone.

Common. Happened to my second generation to knock sensor wire. Buddy's Honda got chewed on and was never right again. He traded it in for a loss.

Happened to my wife’s BMW X5. She left it sitting for a month while on vacation. A family or two homesteaded her engine compartment - chewed the the wiring in multiple places. Her dash lighted up the Rockefeller Christmas tree

    From his thread:

"Truck came home yesterday. For the curious the final tab was $6174.69. That includes replacing the entire engine room harness, new passenger headlight, fog light harness, repairing MAF and cam actuator wires, MWR harness, and washer fluid line."

They replaced the entire "engine room harness" which I believe is nonmechanical wiring ie. headlights and stuff because the little bastards chomped so close to a lot of connectors. They repaired the cam actuator wires and TSS wires though.

Would spraying predator urine occasionally prevent this?

From what I've gathered here it could help but I think the only surefire way to get rid of them is to kill them.
