The Ultimate Insane Cross Country Road Trip

Day 6 will be a bit shorter. Headed to Hot Springs AR where I spent a lot of my summers growing up, and lived for a couple years. We'll be in TN, KY, IL, MO, AR, and MS

Day 7 is the day we're going to have to put the hammer down. Not much to see once we get to Nebraska... which I guess is good because a lot of it will be after dark anyway. We'll be in AR, OK, MO, KS, OH and NE

That’s gonna be a rough day. Not that it’s not doable, just that it’s boring af lol definitely stock up on caffeine

The best time to drive Nebraska is definitely in the dark. Not missing anything.

 

Day 8 will see NE, CO, UT

Which brings us to Day 9. The most important part of this day is getting on the road by 7:00 AM and hammer down. We will make a quick side trip up to Idaho while we are skirting the border (Near Snowville UT), but we've got to make good time across NV to allow us to hit Sonora Pass in the daylight. Sonora Pass is not much fun after dark. We'll hit UT, ID, NV, CA

Did same trip in 3 days with two dogs that refused to let me sleep lol. Boy it was tiring

 

....Hey now....

I did a cannonball run back in March, back out toward Florida and then back up inland, not along the coast. Did the coastal run from Charleston up to DC last summer.



But - along the way, we hit Amarillo (big texan ranch), Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Albuquerque and Santa Fe, etc. On the way back home, Joshua Tree and White Sands, Austin, Houston, it was a pretty good trip! I wouldn't do it again, because there's so much more I'd want to do that I haven't already done, but otherwise I would do it again Two weeks total though.

 

First leg of the trip down. Made it to Houston, waiting for our connector to D.C.

 

First day down... staying the night in Newark Delaware

Hit 4 States on opening day... yes, I'm couting Texas with our layover.

 

Our 2nd day was a pretty big day as well... shot from Delaware, to PA, NJ, NY, CT back through NY, NJ, across Delaware Bay back in to Delaware on the Ferry to stay in Rohoboth Beach.

Jen made it to the Atlantic for the first time, I think it was colder than she expected.

 

Hit Ocean City Maryland.

 

Then cut across rural Delaware on 2 lane roads towards Annapolis Maryland.

Crossed the Bay Bridge (Chesapeake)... this bridge is not on my top 10 favorite bridges.

 

Then headed back to rural VA to visit my Aunt, Uncle, and Grandmother for a couple days.

When are you leaving for CA? I am going on a road trip to SW Montana, and plan to hit up STL and Denver on my way there. No idea on my way back to VA

 

We're loaded up and ready to head out in the morning.

We're going to meander through WV, KY, with a bridge crossing into OH on the way to Nashville tomorrow night.
