Anyone else have the gas light quit? I’m stranded for the fifth time in three months.

    Background:
I was low on gas, light came on, needle was pretty low. I went off to do whatever, hopped back in the truck, fired it up and the light didn't fire. I ran out of gas.

I filled the tank, ran it down and saw the light pop on. Did the same a few times, the light was turning on when I got low, and I'd fill at that point.

Several times now, I've noticed getting low/perceived the tank being pretty low, and it's ran out a few of them now (yesterday being the most recent).

    Questions:
Did I fry part of the fuel pump? Did I fry a fuel sensor? Is it integrated to the pump in these trucks?

If you're waiting for the warning light to come on before buying gas it is operator error. I've had my truck 14 years and don't know if it works or not. I've never let it get that low on gas.

Does your gas gauge work? Fill up at 1/8th tank.

Reset the trip meter after each fill up, remember a good number to fill again.

Waiting for the light to come on and sucking any crap up and to your filter really not advised
I know this piece of advice may suck, or I’m not sure how to do it with the tank in but I would look at your float to see what’s going on there

I honestly can't remember a time past the age of 17 that I ran out of gas...maybe look at the gauge once in a while?

This is what I have always done. At 280-300 miles its time to start thinking about fuel.

Someone is a slow learner....this is why we have to have warning labels on everything.

No, I have never had an issue with the Gas Light as I never even see it.

I am in awe of your determination to run out of gas at every opportunity.

Gas light. What are we talking here? The warning low gasoline light or the light behind the gauge?

I am assuming he is talking about the Low Level light as he has ran out of gas 5 times on account of it. o_O

    5 times?

Any bulb can fail, even that one. Especially if it's happened to you that many times and it's never come one. I'm guessing that your gas gauge read empty each time as well. If it did, then the gauge is fine but the bulb is not.
I know Toyota sells some very small bulbs for the dash switches. I just don't know about one.

To be honest, lve never seen my light come on. But l never let my truck get that low either.

the above is a misconception, the pick up for the pump is on the bottom of the tank, so it does not matter if tank is empty or full, it still draws fuel and crap off the bottom of the tank... reason not to run tank low is to keep pump submerged in fuel so it is cooled, thus extending the pumps life expectancy.

We poke fun at you for brain farting more than once and running outta gas but we truly want to help.

I had a car that I just couldn’t seem to keep the bulbs all over working. Being unable to see the dash sucked. I finally resorted to a rechargeable book light pointed at the dash. Super redneck fix but it worked.

    Something like this.

In your case do not get the bulb fixed/replaced. Just forget about the damn light. Just watch the gauge and get gas when it gets down to 1/2 or 1/4 tank, fill it. Never heard of anyone waiting for the light to come on before they got gas. At least not over and over. This is so bizarre I think you are bullshitting us or trolling.
