2020 4Runner Wheels (gloss gray)

So I bought one of the gunmetal gray 4Runner 17” TRD wheels and test fitted it. It seemed to fit fine on the rear, but was definitely a touch snug on the front.

So I hit the inner bore of the wheel probably 25 licks with 120 grit sandpaper followed by probably 50 licks with 220 grit sandpaper. I don’t think I actually removed any aluminum from the wheel, really just the layer of black paint and small burrs / imperfections. My test wheel seemed to fit fine and I subsequently bought three more wheels. Following the same sanding technique, all four wheels now fit fine on the front hubs. Below is a pic with one of them mounted.

Now for the tires… is there anything to the thought that the “softer” suspension on the Pro is more likely to rub with a 265/70/17 (when compared to a Off-Road or Sport) when paired with this wheel?. There are probably a million posts on this forum about that tire and wheel combination, but none of them really seem to address this combination on the Pro with a factory suspension.

If so, I’m thinking maybe I should stick with a 265/65/17.

Those are the factory lugs that came on my truck.

If I knew it, I would be glad to give it to you, but I’m a rank amateur when it comes to Toyotas. I’m sure someone else on here can help you out though.

 

I went with the matte black versions of these wheel and the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 in 265/6517 with the OR stock suspension. The combination works fine for me and the off roading that I do.

 

I’m leaning more towards that tire size also. That way I won’t have any rubbing at full wheel lock with compression of the suspension, especially if I choose to put some type of mudflap on there.

Also, transmission shift points, speedometer calibration, fuel economy, etc. won’t be affected as that is exactly the same overall tire diameter that comes on it from the factory.

So I got the new wheels and tires mounted up and had the front windows tinted to match the rear. Went with the 265/65R17 Ridge Grappler. Could not find the 265/70R17 available anywhere in the United States, so I decided just to stick with the OE equivalent size for now since I plan to mount factory Toyota mudflaps (albeit with significant modification to shorten them up a bit).

If anyone has any interest in the factory TRD Pro Goodyear tires, shoot me a message. Perfect condition of course, right at 150 miles on them.

The 9 mm more of “negative” offset of these rims compared to the factory TRD Tacoma wheels also puts the wheel and tire just a bit further out from under the truck, giving it a slightly more aggressive stance.

This will be the third set of Ridge Grapplers that I’ve owned and I can’t say enough about how they improve the look and off road performance of a vehicle without sacrificing road manners or adding additional noise.

Thanks to the pics on this thread - I was just about to drop these in my shopping cart, but a few of these sizing posts made me double check. The list of vehicles that the Glossy Gunmetal rims fits is WAY shorter than the Matte wheels. Same part number, except for the color designation at the end. Maybe that .1 difference is enough to call it a no-go? I'm going with the Matte - just to be absolutely sure. My local has a pretty hard stance on the 15% re-stocking fee and it would suck hardcore to lose money over a minuscule difference in color. Just my 2 cents guys. See below:

 

Here is a set of gunmetal on my 2020 Voodoo Blue. They look great in person and change from light to dark hues depending on the light. I put on AT3 265 70 R17 and I get a little rubbing due to the offset, but not enough to remove or cut the mudguards. I suspect that will stop once the tires wear a little.
Absolutely no figment issue, snug but perfect fit. The only change from OEM that came on the truck is the offset. Maybe a specific batch had a problem? I asked the mechanic about it and he installed 5 or 6 sets so far and all have been fine.

 

Although neither part number shows that they fit a Tacoma, and I think this is because of the different offset of these 4Runner wheels when compared to factory Tacoma wheels.

From what I’ve gathered, only issues that seems to arise are on the front hubs of the 2020 and 2021 model Tacomas. But it was an easily fix to get them on my 2021 Pro.

 

Would you sending a straight-on side pic of your truck when you get a free minute?
