One thing that surprised me when I really started researching tires was the weight differences from one brand to the next. I ended up reassessing my needs and went with a SL Falken Wildpeak AT3W. I’m very pleased overall but think my second choice would have been a C load range Duratrac but will also add that I’ve had good luck with my General tires over the years as well. Luckily there are a lot of great tire choices out there now so it’s hard to go wrong, but lower weight was important for me because I didn’t want to saddle my truck with shoes that are too heavy.

I just read this entire thread and am in the same situation. It's, now, appearing that there may be more options seeing as it's Sept 2020. Any help would be appreciated. I want to stick with 16s and have The Eibach stage 2 adjustable coilovers ordered. Need to find a tire choice soon and the research is "Dizzying." I agree OP. Thank you for starting this. Seriously any help... Even a link to a newer thread would help.

Hey Moon dog. I'm able to help you out with beer ( I'm a brewer) if you can help me not get 17s. I'm thinking methods 315s machined with 265 70 17 I wanted 16s but the tires suck... As you know.

One of the newer tires to the market is the Goodyear Ultraterrain, but they come in either SL or LT. I recently decided to trade in my Duratrac C-load for the Ultraterrain SL mainly because the Duratracs were just so freaking loud on the freeway. I've taken the Ultraterrains on a few gnarly trails since then (but I haven't aired them down), and I haven't had any problems so far. They're nice and quiet and very light. Here are a few pics and additional insight - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/goodyear-ultraterrain-at.563036/page-26#post-24077488.

It’s a tough search for 16s for sure. While we have some more choices out there, they’re still kind of limited. I ended up going with Wildpeaks in SL but then sold my truck (in the market again). I’ve been on a brown ale kick lately but I’m down for most any craft!

Here we are spring 2021 and I'm in the exact same boat. Need an AT tire at 265/75/r16 that has some meat on it but doesn't bog me down (2.7L AC). Some of these SL versions of AT tires look absolutely nothing like the E rated versions. Is there a consensus "right" answer here? Is it the falken wildpeak at sl? In my head I want a C rated tire for the sidewall protection on trails. It's crazy to me that there aren't more in between options at this size.
