I have a prerunner. Have I ever needed 4x4? Not once. Do I wish I had a 4x4 anyway? Absolutely. Sometimes it just seems stupid that I have AT tires and a lift on a 2wd truck. But I like the style and I needed the rear AAL for carrying heavier loads.
I made the smart money dicission since I have no NEED for a 4x4 but I guess in my heart I wish I did have a need and had a 4x4...

For general camping and gravel and fire roads you don't need 4x4. You'll be fine in the PreRunner and save the weight, complication and maintenance of the 4wd. But if you live in an area that gets any significant snow and you need the truck for a daily driver then the 2wd is a non starter, unless you want to stay home when it snows. I am not a serious off-roader but the 4wd is a must when it snows here in MD. Some years it's a little, some a lot. But when it does 4x4 is necessary.

Can't imagine why you'd need 4x4 for snow in Maryland... it's not like you got 4 feet all at once last winter...

I really enjoy my '10 Pre, but I too wish for 4x4. Oh, well- next time

^ Indeed! And to think I drove around up here for 15 years or so with TransAms and Z28s as my all-year daily drivers. I don't need that kind of excitement anymore.

It's still funny that there are still new posts even after you guys discovered this. For all we know, this guy probably have bought sold the Tacoma and driving a Prius now because he wanted to save gas.

You see a lot of this, but not the other way around.

Get the 4x4 and avoid the regret so many of them have later.
