I'm not seeing any KMZ files on their website. Can you provide a link? Thanks.

yes! I will hopefully have 2 spare tires, farm jack, patch kit, and at least one jerry can for gas. Once I get a list nailed down and a route touched up I’ll put together what I think would be good to have as “requirements”.

Looking at my calendar, I'm booked through November, so who wants to get snowed on?

@Ferball @Spare Parts (and anyone else who wants to join, personally I'd like to limit it to 5 total trucks though, but :notsure:)

June 19/20 weekend? Not sure on how long this will take. I'm thinking probably rendezvous in Millinocket Friday, go in Friday mid morning, Saturday will be kipping up for the overnight closer to the trains, Sunday down to the B52 site and then out in Greenville. I don't really know the woods and trails though, and worth noting - this is just what Google says, the route itself is not set in stone, depends on current conditions when we get up there. I'm also going to look to see if the route down from the trains to the B52 site can be done on a different route so we aren't just going down the same route we already took (that's just how I like to plan trips, I like a big circle/route rather than just go back the way I came).

That schedule is also flexible, we could do Saturday -> Monday, too. I think just Sat+Sun COULD be doable, with only 3 trucks, but I don't want to plan a route and not get to enjoy any of the stops.

my typical day of driving on a trip is starting around 9-10, not too fussed about that. I am pretty strict about lunch though - between 12:30 and 2, there shall be a lunch stop and lunch is not a "light" meal. Not saying a pasta dinner, but lunch is the one I don't flex on, since dinner could be a game-time call, might not have the right setups, etc etc so, I stress lunch as the important meal of the day.

And now that I'm done that soap box about lunch  typically I try to find a camp site by 3, or wait until way after dark. But, for this one probably try to get to camp by 3-4, my setup takes 21 seconds, but I know others have more involved setups

    upload_2021-5-10_10-20-53.jpg

Comms will use an FRS/GMRS frequency :spy:

Otherwise, the "required" stuff, I'd say: Spare wheel, preferably 2 - I will hopefully have 2 by the time this rolls around. Patch kit, I'll have one. Pump, I have a bike pump, don't have a compressor yet :notsure:, IGBC cooler, beer, water 1 gal per day per person/dog, fuel extra 5 gallons.

EDIT: BALLS I forgot Brent sent me a route to check out, stand by!

I'm game. I'm stupid enough to give that a go. Depends on conditions and tires, if I'm still on stock goodyears that's a maybe.

I think I can do that weekend, I don’t care about the B52 site, been there a few times and will go a few more I’m sure.

I don't disagree, that said, I want to probably head west to get out in Greenville instead of Millinocket.

I'll actually be in Bangor/Orono the weekend after this too  jeebus.

Trains to B52 site is a long day of driving, but if you're heading south the roads will be steadily improving as you go.

Google says probably 3-4 hours, that's not too bad. But that's also Google, I figure that could jump to about 6 hours of driving, that's not tooooo bad. 9-noon, break for lunch, then down to the B52s and out.

I'd be driving 5 hours south back home after that anyway.

:spy: now that I just put that into maps actually I might sneak another day in somewhere.

What about driving north either from the trains, or go up north then come back down to the trains? I have no idea what that would look like, just a thought

Up toward St Agatha? I could be convinced. I would probably prefer to start up north and drive south, and then exit either in Greenville or Millinocket. Either of those are about 5-5.5 hours home to Providence for me, Ft Kent down to Providence is closer to 8. So we can rendezvous way up there  and then drive down.

Edit: Closer to St. Francis, probably. I don't know that route at all, will have to look at maps. I'm not opposed to it.

I’d start up north and drive south if I was setting up the trip

I’ll have to look at maps, but I think we might be able to start in Caribou

Ashland - really, we just need a place with a gas station and ice. I will be online tonight for my radio club's call, I can look at maps and routes while I'm on that. I could be convinced to go up that way for sure though, in June that'll be a beautiful drive.

edit: fuck sake of COURSE there's a family dollar in the middle of nowhere there

Then we would load up in Presque Isle, plenty of places, even hotel if needed.

Yeah, I mean I'll have my food pretty much set with me, only thing I'll need is fuel and ice in Ashland, if we're trying to do this in 3 days instead of 4.

    upload_2021-5-10_11-38-29.jpg

Again, don't know if that's the best route or even a route, but gives a ballpark timing. And I've never been in that eastern leg before, only North and west of the trains, and then the B52 site from Greenville - never in the woods connecting the two.

We can do PI/Caribou, only 30 minutes East. Really the trip itself is the easy part, the difficulty is figuring out the 450 miles up and back from Providence to get there

If I might make a suggestion? If you go in that far north at Ashland, I recommend taking the Realty Rd to almost Clayton Lake, then head south to Churchill Dam. Nice little museum there. Then, just north(less than a mile)you can cut west towards the Poulin Rd and head towards the trains. For some reason, the road that connects Churchill dam rd to Poulin Rd is not on Google Maps. Its a well-traveled road.
