Do you try the Russian river for those? At one of my secret spots on the Russian a couple months ago I was walking my dog and looked down into the water and saw probably 40 or 50 giant salmon stacked on top of one another.

The Russian is just about to get good for that spring/summer bass action, but I couldn’t imagine hooking a giant salmon.

The Russian is a tough river to “plan”. The steelhead or salmon are certainly present but the combo of low or muddy water and the location of the run in the river is a challenge for those not well connected. Most salmon are taken by “lining” and I have zero interest in that. With steelhead I generally have to plan out a 4-7 day trip so I select the Klamath, Trinity or Smith. Catching a 15-25 lb salmon is pretty fun. Catching an 8-12 pound steelhead is otherworldly. Nothing better in freshwater IMO.

Clearlake! I tried to get there yesterday, but embarrassingly I have neglected my truck. It didn’t make it there. Boo!

I tried to get there today. Success!

what a day. Lost count of the fish. Didn’t take many pics because it was such a rush. I forgot. Half the time my GoPro was aiming at the sky.

but I landed some good fat fish. lots of them.

I’ve only fished Clear Lake in the winter and it’s been well...winter fishing.
I need to get out and hit it now.

I’ve been taking off for Lake Sonoma in the evenings after work lately... just bank fishing. Man oh man it feels good to just grab a rod and a small backpack.

Last night I ended up going out and catching some largemouth and smallmouth. Lost a couple nice ones but managed 5 or 6 fish total. Fun times!

KAT AND I hit up Clearlake (Saturday). we had a blast until the wind chased us back to the boat launch. sadly I am back at work and my workload ramped up QUICK. my fishing time will be directly affected. haha. I had a good run at em. no complaints. no regrats. :)

Weather looking a little weird this weekend. Could make for some great fishing or terrible fishing. Lol

Went out to the Russian river this evening. Managed to find ‘em! Caught some smallmouth, a couple pikeminnow, and a lost a few more nice fish. Also managed to get a smallie on a popper which felt good!

They fight like a bat out of hell. Scrappy-fighting bastards forsure. There are so many in the Russian. I usually catch more pike minnow than bass when I go out there.

Stole a few hours yesterday after work. Hooked a few. One was a giant I couldn’t turn with my 8lb leader. I was rushed
    Pretty windy.

Spring winds are not gonna let up are they?

    I got a few. Slowly becoming a fan of a purple/pink worm.

    :rofl::rofl:

Yesterday was brutal. My upper body is certainly feeling it today from all that paddling against the wind.
