Isn’t this how most 90’s apocalypse or action movies started? Russian hackers take over some utility and demand a ransom...

There are only two pumps here in my Eastern NC town that still have gas. If you drive a diesel you have it made. Just curious how things are in your neck of NC, the southeast, or other parts of the country. Or world, for you Canucks. Any panic buying or price surges yet? Will there be gas for my off-road trip this weekend?

What was it yesterday? That’s high but isn’t Hawaii gas pretty expensive to begin with...

I've been through two shortages. One was because a hurricane knocked out power to all local pumps, which was followed by two weeks of panic hoarding.

The other was caused by a shipping delay of a day or two, followed by two to three weeks of panic hoarding.

They'll isolate the random ware and resume deliveries, but I have a prediction about what's going to happen for a couple of weeks.

Try to fill your tank as needed, just try not to be an asshole about it.

Damn....didn't think CA gas could get more expensive than Hawaii.

I have to use 91 minimum, $4.15 - $5/gallon out here depending on the station and area of town. 87 is around $3.80

That about sums up my take as well.

The worst gas shortage I ever saw was in Pensacola after hurricane Ivan in 2004, which did an enormous amount of damage. I remember talk of $6 gas and stations being investigated for price gouging. It took months for that to settle. If we get really lucky this won’t be an impact beyond Friday or so.

If this is how we go out, I'm going to be seriously disappointed.

Are you insinuating that Russians did this? I don’t think you want to go there... politics and all.

Gas has been high in my area of ontario for awhile now, been hovering between 1.30-1.38/Liter for a month or so, for 89.

It's at ~1.33L now so no real change in price with the recent events, give it a week.

Take it easy my friend, politics have nothing to do with it. Actually, DarkSide has stated publicly that it’s an apolitical organization so I think we’re safe. Most top security researchers think the organization is based in Eastern Europe or Russia. Beside the point really...I’m just interested in the impact this event has had on gas prices. Doesn’t really matter where the hackers are from.

News report today said that by 2027, it will be cheaper to produce and electric car than a gasoline one.

$4.15 ish per gallon US dollars if I didn’t screw my math up too badly? Had no idea gas was that high in Canada.

I was reading an article today on how much lithium will be required to transition over, it’s pretty insane. I think we only have one mine in the US currently. I suppose avoiding the expensive of an engine and associated accoutrements is a huge savings though.

We do have one major US producer at the minute, but there are a lot of prospectors that are looking. Problem is that natural lithium bearing ores are hard to detect unless they are in a highly concentrated area or you have a lab that specializes in Li+ detection.

Lithium is such a light element it doesnt show up using the average x-ray instrument. Of the four instruments in our lab that can identify chemical composition, maybe only the XRD can identify anything lithium bearing, and that is only if I am actively looking for it. (Even with that method spodumene is easy to misidentify as a more commonly occurring clay.) But now that people are starting to put the time and instrumentation to look for it, we should see more discoveries and potential production areas opening up.
