Doing a bit of research, there's a bang on the tank solution that fixed one dude's floater.

There's also an FG0919 fuel sensor + sending unit that seems like a simple (r+r) option.

The thing is you said that the gas level gauge is working correctly right. If so then the issue is NOT with the rheostat in the tank ( Sending Unit ), but would be an issue in the Combination Meter Circuit Board. Fuel light is turned on by the Fuel Control Section on the circuit board with input from the Fuel Float rheostat in the tank.

I routinely get about 310 miles bone stock without a gas light and that's only about 18 mpg. 350 would be on a road trip.

I don’t know what the hell people are talking about 350 miles on a tank?? Is this real?

I know right. Sounds like science fiction to me too.

I've never gotten over about 265 - 270 out of a tank in my Prerunner with 2TR-FE 2.7 liter. Of course I don't drive like my Grandmother either...

I could routinely get 320 per tank before filling up. Then I quit caring about the gas mileage and just drive it. Can’t tell you last time I measured.

It's definitely real. But I only see it if I'm on a road trip, see below for some numbers. At 20mpg with a 20 gal tank you should get 400 til you're dry.

I've gone 340 twice on less than 18 gallons of gas, but that was all highway, no stops.
