Successful combo flip key fob programmed and coded for 2015 Tacoma

Wow, so they emailed me back saying they can diagnose remotely and of course need my info (computer ID and password). Its pretty cool that they will do this (if reputable) but scares the shit out of me. I'm out all the way.

Edit- when I say 'they' I mean the company in China where the obd2 and download stuff came from posted on 1st post. Im glad its worked out for others but it just got to deep for me and possibly over my head

 

Has anyone run into the issue of there being no "Utilities" button showing up in the program?

 

Yes, I ran into that and driver issues. I sent it back because I didn't want to give seller remote access to my computer for support. They were willing to. After 5-7 hours of me trying to troubleshoot I gave up and looked in the local threads to see if anyone already had techstream and could help

 

I've been doing some digging, and it looks like it may be a version issue. Nothing conclusive yet though--going to keep searching to see if I can find anything.

ok, let me first say that I LOVE the idea of having a "flip key" and fob in one......but as a 50ish lazy "just do it for me" type of guy, the process seems like a lot of work......sooooooo......I ordered just the outer case from Amazon and all that's needed is to transfer the inside components of my existing remote and have the key cut.......seems a lot easier for ME.......and I'll get the "outer shell" tomorrow with Amazon prime......hopefully my local locksmith can also switch the inner components while he cuts the key......seems easier and I guess I'll find out tomorrow...

I vaguely remember something like this happening. I think you just need to try running techstream with your key in a different ignition position. Try with the key turned to ACC or On.

 

Programmed two spares successfully today. I downloaded a newer version of the software, using the link shipped with the "Washinglee" ODBII cable (version 14.30.023). My first attempt was using the link in this thread (version 6.1). Very straight forward as the software gives the necessary instructions.

I believe I had it turned to accessory when it worked successfully this time.

Also, just FYI for anyone else that tries, these are the keys I bought:

+$10 to get them cut at the dealership, and then buying the cable. Definitely a lot cheaper than paying for a new key to be cut/programmed from a vendor (typical in the area was $130-150 per key).

 

@RedTaco68 I did this a few years ago to my 2012. I got mine cut at Serv-U locksmiths in Springfield, MA. Its been a while but if I remember correctly I think they only charged $5.00.

 

Confirmed working for a 2012 Tacoma TRD-OR. I have a transponder key (with a G). Using Windows 10 x64bit. I didn't get a flip key, I just wanted new keys and remotes. I programmed 2 new keys and 2 new remotes successfully.

Some Notes/tips/tricks that I tried:
- Use the exact Techstream the OP provided in the first post (version 14.30). I tried a newer version 15 and it did NOT work! Did not see Utility on the left pane in version 15.
- It's EXTREMELY Important to Turn OFF Windows Defender Firewall and Virus Protection or the driver for the cable will not install.
- If you are getting an error with communicating with the cable or ECU, the driver for the cable did not install correctly. Your antivirus might've zapped the small file, so turn off/disable your antivirus and DOWNLOAD the complete file again. Do NOT reinstall. You MUST download the file again. The driver is safe. Google's apps and keyloggers in your web broswer is more dangerous than anything in this software package.
- Click on the Techstream Patch 64bit to start Techstream, NOT the Techstream icon on your desktop (obviously if you have a 32bit system, choose the 32bit patch). The "patch" bypasses/disables the registration step when Techstream starts up.

Get your key cut at the dealer. It's usually free. And they can look up your exact key code. All locksmiths I called charged a fee or didn't want to cut it. YMMV.

I ordered my keys and remotes off ebay. Forgot the exact seller name but he had the best reviews and ratings. I paid $27.95 for 2 keys and 2 remotes and they're guaranteed to work. All of mine programmed perfectly and worked perfectly.

 

Yea I had this problem. I was using a newer version 15 and the fix was to download the version that the OP posted in the first post on this thread. I believe it's version 14.30.023. Worked perfectly after that.

I have a 2010 dot key and I got this blank off Amazon. The tutorial worked for me. Just have to get the key cut now

 

Can confirm this works for a 2014 DCSB OR. My local locksmith was very skeptical but the exact flip “euro” style key in the original thread will work for FCC:

Did your locksmith program the key itself? I imagine that they were able to program the fob itself as well. I was able to program the flip down fob but without techstream I was unable to program the key itself. Did your locksmith have techstream?

 

Sorry, I should have clarified. I had both my ignition and Lock/unlock programmed through my locksmith. I didn’t want to mess with buying the additional cable and downloading the software. Not the cost effective way, but it was convenient!

 

Looking same key w fob attached. One of my key worn it can out out ignition acc/on also locks door but cant unlock. I dont mind using the donor chip from the warn key

 

Note that I used the installation files that OP link on the first post, V14.30.023. The cable I purchased from Amazon came with a CD with 3 sets of files that are even older versions than what OP linked. I tried 2 of the sets of files and both force you to update the drivers when you try to run the shortcut file. Which you cannot update without an official Toyota login ID. This shouldn’t matter as you can use Device Manager to direct where the M-VCI cable should look for the driver you want it to install. After combining all 3 installation readme files, installation videos, and this forum thread, this is what I put together to get my Techstream and M-VCI cable to work.


Turn off your firewall defender before you download the file. You may need to use a different web browser if your current one will not let you download the file. Try FireFox or Opera web browser. If your firewall defender is on, it will warn you that your file is not safe. It will either allow to you fully download your file and then delete it. Or it will fully download and delete necessary files without letting you know which files it deleted. If you fully download the file without any notices/warnings, then you have your firewall defender turn off and the files will download correctly.

Once the file is download, I like to create a new folder on my desktop and move the zip file into that folder. Then unzip the files into this folder.


Step 1: Installing TechStream

Run “Techstream_Setup_V14.30.023.exe”

Select “English (United States)” and click “Next >”

Click “Next >”

Select “I accept the terms of the license agreement” and click “Next >”

User Name: Put anything you want. Must be filled out.

Company Name: Put anything you want. Must be filled out.

Click “Next >”

Click “Install”

Wait for Techstream to install.

Click “Finished”


Step 2: Installing Drivers

Run “(64 bit Windows) Mini VCI Driver for TOYOTA.exe”

Click “Yes”

Click “OK”


Step 3: Techstream Setup

Go to the desktop.

Run “Techstream”

Area Selection: “North America”

Default Language Selection: “English”

Dealer Name: Put anything you want. Must be filled out.

Dealer Code: Put anything you want. Must be filled out.

Dealer Phone: Put anything you want. Must be filled out.

Click “OK”

The program will run and ask for a registration key. Just cancel.

Register Techstream Software (S314-01)

Click “Cancel”

In the Techstream (Ver 14.30.023) program window.

At the top of the menu list.

Select “Setup”

Select “VIM Select”

In the TIS Techstream VIM drop down box.

Select “XHorse – MVCI”

Click “OK”

Close the program.


Step 4: Attempting to Run TechStream

Plug your VCI cable into your laptop via the USB port. On the OBDII port side, it should light up green to show that it is connected to your laptop.


To run Techstream, use the shortcut provided in the downloaded file. “Techstream Patch 64bit”. This will bypass the product key and run the program.


Click “Update Later”

*If you click “Cancel”, the program will close.

*If you click “Update Now”, it will open a webpage and ask for a official Toyota login account/password to download the latest version. Which you will not have and cannot do.


Step 5: Troubleshooting

***Connection Error (S302-05)

***Error: Unable to Connect to VIM

On your desktop, use the search function on the bottom left corner. Search “Device Manager”. Select to open Device Manager.


You will see under “Other devices” that “M-VCI” has a yellow exclamation mark. !

If you right click on “M-VCI” and select “Properties”, you can see that the drivers did not install correctly. This is the file named “(64 bit Windows) Mini VCI Driver for TOYOTA.exe”.

You can also find the same information in Device Manager under “Universal Serial Bus Controllers” > Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)”.


Step 6: Solution

In Device Manager, locate “Other devices” that “M-VCI” with the yellow exclamation mark. !

Right click “M-VCI” and select “Update driver”

Select “Browse my computer for drivers”

Click “Browse…”

Navigate through “This PC” > “OS (C: )” > “Program Files (x86)”

*(This should be the location that the drivers installed into when you ran “(64 bit Windows) Mini VCI Driver for TOYOTA.exe”.)

Click “OK”

Click “Next”

The driver should now successfully install and link to your M-VCI cable.

Try running “Techstream Patch 64bit” shortcut again with the M-VCI cable plugged into your laptop. It should get you past the “Error: Unable to Connect to VIM” message now. *Note that you can test all of this in your house with just your laptop and the M-VCI cable. You do not need to be connected to your OBDII port in your Tacoma right now. This is just to test that Techstream is working and that it is reading your M-VCI cable.


Step7: Running Techstream

Run “Techstream Patch 64bit” shortcut.

Vehicle Connection Wizard (S301-06)

Fill out the Required Information section. Division, Model, ModelYear, and Engine.

You do not need to fill out the Optional Information section. VIN and Memo.

Click “Next>”


Refer to the bottom of the first post and watch the video on how to use Techstream to program the transponder.

*Note my truck is a 2015 2nd Gen Tacoma. TRD Offroad 4x4 V6 4.0L. My key is

Yeah. OP's directions weren't 100%. I had to use the installation videos from the seller I purchased my cable from. But that video was in another language. So I had to put all the info together to figure out exactly how to install the techstream and the drivers.

But I was still getting the connect error to the cable. I noticed that when I installed the drivers it was to a specific folder. (It wasn't installing the driver onto the cable). So if you have to go into Windows device manager and tell the cable (usb port) what folder to look in for the drivers. You don't have to tell it what specific driver, just what folder the driver is located in.
