Backup camera relocation for rear swingout

Now that it's February, my high clearance rear swingout from @Mobtown Offroad should be about a month away

What will I need to relocate the backup camera? The bumper is supposed to come with a bracket, but what else will I need? I've tried searching and haven't found any good write-ups but I probably missed something. Is there a kit that is plug and play, or something I should piece together on my own?

 

most people put it on the swingout below the tire, center on the swing out cross bar, or one of the dual arms if you have that. You will have to drill a hole or tap with a self-tapping screw yourself. I have put off installing mine but that is where I plan to do it and most I have seen. Makes for an easy way to run the wire from the rear to the camera. The other option if you have a shell is up top but I feel the swing arm is more neutral to any setup.

 

Yeah the bumper comes with the bracket to remount the camera. What I'm trying to find out is where to source a new camera (if I don't reuse the original one), and what else I'll need in terms of wires and connections.

 

ah gotcha my plan and others used the stock camera and relocated it at least the bracket we have is for doing so. I have thought about sourcing a new camera that has better resolution. as we know the stock one leaves much to be desired.

Are you running a stock radio? When i was on a trip in CO last year ran into a FJ with a cool 360 setup front/rear and sides I have considered adding.

 

Mine had enough cable to reach the center of my swingout. Was really easy to remove it all from inside the tailgate and relocate with the bracket I received from Brute Force Fab with my swingout.

 

nice that's good to know. I have a bruteforce but have not relocated. My other buddy extended his harness.

 

That's good to know. I think I'm just having a hard time visualizing everything, and once I get the bumper on and start taking apart the stock camera I'll know more of what I need.

 

Just recently found this thread. Here's a plug and play connection from the oem wire harness from the camera. No wire cutting. It's underneath rear bumper passenger side. And a quick disconnect for the license plate light.

Wow, thank you. That is more or less what I had in mind. I thought the price was a bit high before I saw it came with a camera too. How is the quality of that camera compared to the stock one?

 

Yah the price is a bit much but with the camera and harness and a simple plug and play. Worth it. And be able to quick disconnect and put back to OEM if you decide to take off the tire carrier..

thought the camera was better than OEM as other reviews stated as well.
