Just bought this over the weekend and I am PUMPED! I've never owned a truck or a 4-wheel drive vehicle before, so I've been researching and reading a lot and I am ready to get real heavy into this stuff. I am so thankful to have found these forums. Seems like a really great community, except for the roast thread which left me feeling like a total loser after I saw someone trashing non-functional scoops. :( :D

I have a ton of hiking/camping/backpacking experience so I think that'll help a little bit with the overlanding aspect, but I'll need to learn from some experienced off-roaders for the technical trail stuff.

I think my first mods will be rock sliders and undercarriage armor. Any advice?

    Thanks!

cover4.jpg True rock sliders are an indispensable mod, get the longest ones you can find with a good bit of kickout in the rear, upturn, and stick out, recommend getting ones with fill plates too.

    congrats and welcome.

rock sliders are great and all. along with the armor....but, are you planning to off road a lot of scary trails? might be overkill. you will be just adding weight.

the thing that i would recomend is getting a good set of tires and enjoy the truck for now and see in a couple months what is needed to help you enjoy your truck

Those are all right but they don't have the kick out, also I wouldn't buy from Tacoma beast I don't know that he's blacklisted by any means around here, like Taco Tunes, but he was caught defacing nature with his brand name and tag in a national wildlife preserve/park.

I don't know man, even for the urban warrior rock sliders are fantastic, they prevent door dings and shopping cart damage, as well as rock and mud spray on the doors and if you get ones with the fill plates to kick out enough protrusion you can use it as a step to get into the bed, or even along the side to reach the roof of the truck when washing and waxing.

True blue rock sliders though do not make very good running boards they're up too high the angle and Tuck just doesn't make them convenient you have to almost get in and out over and around them but you can figure out ways to use them though it'll trip up most of your passengers.

Also personally I wouldn't bother with the DOM tubing ones, it's an unnecessary expense as armor if you're really going to use it is to some degree expendable same goes for skid plates, if you're really going to beat up on them get steel but don't bother with the super reinforced ones even those will still bend they're just heavier and more expensive and we'll still get beaten up and need replaced eventually.

My first purchase would be recovery gear.
Yes, I leaned the hard way.
I got stuck. By myself. With no recovery gear.

No cell phone then. (I’m old?)
I had to walk through the mud. Then walked even farther before I found help.

No no no. First mods should be 19” wheels, under truck neon and a coffee can exhaust.

I’ll be in Nashville this weekend. I’m flying there but I want some good BBQ and tendies. Let’s go!

Actually... I currently live in another state but will be moving to Nashville on May 30th. I put TN in my profile in preparation for the move! Lol.
If you'll be ever be in Nashville after that then let me know and I would definitely be down to meet.

I'll be passing through in the beginning of July, might scoot over to Windrock OHV park or possibly Hatfield(?) trails I've heard about.

Skip you know anything about those? @ovrlndkull

Hatfield are only open to trucks on the Bearwallow part. You must wear a helmet even in the truck and all vehicles doing the most difficult trails must have a roll cage. So where I had yall follow me on 21 or 15 at windrock yep they require a roll cage.
Nashville hot chicken and if you want real BBQ eastern NC is where it's at.
Start off easy learn to wheel your rig ride with guys that'll help you. I wheeled for over a yr no armor just getting use to the truck and my comfort level. Now that I have armor I got dents. Biggest mod is your skill level and what's between your ears. You may end up liking the easier more scenic overland type stuff more that the harder crazy offroad stuff.

    Well that's durmb.

I'm not caging my truck until it's a dedicated trailered rig in like the next decade.

And my only helmet got totaled with my motorcycle.

So Hatfields out for me I guess lol.
