4th Gen Tacoma Hype

Who’s got the inside skinny on specs? Who is up to date on the rumor mill? Who is excited for the next generation Taco? Who is thinking it’s gonna be the worst iteration?

I have a 1st Gen, hated the 2nd and just bought a 3rd. I want to get some good research in before the new one comes out (2024?) so I know whether or not to pick up a Gladiator when I pay my current truck off.

 

I’m absolutely obsessed with the YouTube Channel “The Story Till Now”. That dude explores the heck out of Canada with his Gladiator and I’m impressed with how it handles rough situations.

Did Jeep steal the idea for the Gladiator from AEV?

 

I’m not sure. Didn’t they already have a “jeep truck” in their lineup from years ago?

It’s been around for awhile.

 

Things I’d like to see in the 4th Gen:

1. A diesel option (Just give us the Hilux power plant)
2. Better gearing (I’m gonna do 5.29 in my 3rd Gen)

Rumored to be coming in two versions

V 1) Same as current with styling changes. 2.7L variations discontinued.

V 2) Hybrid version based on proven Rav4/Highlander/Sienna/Venza drive system. 2.5 l engine, 243hp combined, 3500lb towing capacity, 10mpg gain. Deletion of 6speed transmission, transfer case, driveshaft and rear solid axle. Replaced by Toyotas synergy drive including ecvt, independent rear axles driven by 3phase AC motor via traction battery mounted under box adjacent to fuel tank. All electrical components will be rated IP 68.

 

It's so you know what's behind you when you're looking in your rear view mirrors.

 

A reduction in towing capacity? I doubt that.

I sat eating Chick-Fil-a, in a Chick-Fil-a parking lot yesterday during lunch rush hour with two lines wrapped around the building and out into the road.
They were consistently taking orders, processing the orders and delivering the product, with the vehicle pulling away in under 20 seconds per order.
Pretty incredible.

 

Probably will include a pricey all-electric version. But not before 2024 at the earliest.

 

I won't even stop at most fast food joints if there's more than 4 or 5 cars in line. Chick-Fil-a can be 30 cars deep and I'll still jump in there. They have people walking with the cars, taking orders because the line never stops moving. And they're so freaking polite about everything!

In regards to the 4th gen Tacoma, I doubt we will know anything for awhile. Whatever it ends up being, I'm sure TW will bash it with rabid enthusiasm.

 

I think the only known thing is that it will use the next Generation Tundra frame rails, everything else is speculative.
