I used to compete for ID and the standard setup was either mini horns with 6" in the kicks or if you were lucky enough to have a bigger vehicle then full sized horns with 8" in the kicks. Downside is that it was pretty much a requirement to run dual 31 band eqs along with it. I was running a pair of IDQ31 which were the modified pro audio rack EQs and the IDX24 which was the matching xover. I'll have to see if I can find any of my old install pictures.

Cool stuff, those were the good ol days for sure. I found some of my older PG amps in storage this weekend im hoping to sell. A Phoenix Gold MPS2240 and MS275. Hoping to fund a newer JL or Audio Control amp to run my setup

Dang. If you had some ZX stuff I would have tried to work something out with you. I'd have made room for those just like if I could get my hands on some clean PPI Art series stuff again.

Yeah just those old cheater amps and some competition MB Quart components and Xover's from that era. I had sold my MTX Terminator amps years ago, i had a few 225's and 250's. I also found every alpine radio I have ever had from a 7915 to a 7939 and 3342eq Not to mention the 12 disc AINET changer

LOL, you liked your cheater amps. Between the 24/2 PG and those MTX amps, some seriously "mis-rated" power.

The Alpine collection is nice. Just need to add a 7909 to the mix. I ran the Clarion 9255 for a while and then the "Denford" (RF branded Denon). Also went through the old Eclipse stuff like the 5302 and my last stint was believe it or not with JVC. They put out a few HUs in the early 00's that were actually very capable. The model number escapes me at the moment but you had to go way up the line to get to them.

Yep, those amps were the thing back in the day. We had a few of those PPI's floating around and the old AutoTek amps as well. I didnt have a 7909 but sold that long ago along with some alpine 3552 -3556 amps. Now i want the small simple setup so im leaning towards the newer JL 4channel to run in a 3ch mode or possibly the Audio Control 4.800. Sub wise im planning a single 8" so i think 300-400watts on that will be plenty.

I remember when rockford had those HU's as well and the Punch 45 was a little demon amp back then. A few of those could make a nice system in a low watt class. JVC did have some surprising units. I now have a Kenwood excelon which is my first non alpine unit and im very pleased with it so far.

@Taco_Fisher For your tweeter issue, what about a separate lower end set of Morel tweets to get you by for now such as the Maximo or Maximus series. They are suppose to be a nice soft tweet with good range.

    Sub choices. 1, 2 or 3 ID8s or a single JL10

I considered it but then I have to wonder if they are worth it vs going with something like a Scanspeak or similar non-matched tweet. I wish I still had some tools on hand to map out the response of the mids to see what tweets would be a good match and what the elate xovers are designed for.

That little 300/1 amp would be fine for the single 10 but unfortunately I don't think it's adequate for a triple 8 setup. @2.67ohm I'd be pushing less than 300w to the low end and that's just not enough for those ID8s. Guess I go with the 10 for now at 300w @2ohm and I'll have to consider upgrading the sub amp down the road to drop the 3 8's under the back seat.

I wish i had those sub options. Im going to use an OEM factory box and deaden it to hold a Shallow mount 8 to see how it does. I think it will suffice with some good power on it.

Yeah, that definitely wont push 3 8's but a single 10 would be perfect for that power. The 500/1 may be a good option if you go that route. Im trying to keep the storage space in the rear and keep it looking stock which is why i picked up and OEM JBL box to use as the sub box.

Yeah, maybe I'll just do the single 10 behind the back seat and save the triple 8s for my '79 Beetle build.

I have a pair of old 12w3 around as well but those need too much airspace so they weren't even an option.

3 8's in a beetle would be nice. Post pics of that as well when you start on it

I don't know. This has a certain appeal to it though.

It does look good as a concept and would pound with that 600/1

I think you misspelled 1000/1 LOL. But yeah I'm starting to really think this through. The 600/1 might be a sweet spot but again 2.67ohm so I'd be getting less than 600. I had this trio running off a PPI A600.1 last time they were in use.

LOL 1000 would be a monster if you have room for it. Either amp will definitely fill up that cab with some boom

Well I had a chat with Matt today (former R&D for Image Dynamics) and one of my mentors and he suggested going 3 way up front. Put the 6's in the doors and put the Morel mids flush in the kicks. I'd definitley have to step up to a digital DSP and more amp channels though. I guess it's a question of how far down the rabbit hole I want to go with this.

Also the 3 8's is probably the winner but I'm going to do a downward angle on them so they're not firing at the backs of the seats. I might be able to squeeze a 45-degree downward firing setup in there. I'll have to put a baffle together and see what I can work out.
