I dunno... like 7-8? I installed without removing anything. I lifted the engine up about 1" with my crane and went to town. It was painful getting everything tightened down though. I did one mount in one evening and the other mount in the next. I actually did a writeup explaining how I did the job. I never posted it on the forum but I still have the word document somewhere.

Mine was a PITA.. per the shop. I worked with them on my install to get the motor mounts in.. and they had to pull the headers to clear everything, plus still had clearance issues when re-installing. there were clearance issue between the motor mounts and starter.. and the starter had clearance issues due to the headers. so it was a domino effect.

EDIT: Sorry.. Mine may be different.. because I have the Coil Bucket gussets and that what was in the way for a lot of stuff.

Man, I didn't have to remove anything... could be the difference between UrD and JBA headers too?

No doubt about it though, it would have been easier if I removed a few things. I remember looking at the driver's side mount and thinking "there's literally no way I'm going to be able to swap that." But I gave it a shot and managed to do it.

Finally installed my new struts - the "Athlaos stiffening kit". They were a little annoying to get in, worse than my car's suspension was. I was feeling nervous about taking these for a test drive but now that they're installed I'm feeling confident about them. Test drive tomorrow...

So these franken-struts are a sawed-off 2" OME spring kit, I don't remember the original spring rate but I calculated with the sawed off portion it should be around 900lb/in. Bilstein 5100s, and a bunch of parts from a lift kit and another old suspension kit that I had from ages ago that I decided I wasn't going to install (didn't work so well with the springs).

    IMG_20210512_125531.jpg

Today I put the sway bar back in and took it for a drive. Man it's stiff! It's great! Way better in the corners, not making any clunks any more, the front rises up less when I hit the accelerator. There's nothing bad about it really.

It surprised me a bit how much it leveled the truck. I was expecting like 1.5" of levelling, not 3". Some of that 3" was compensating for some sag in the factory springs so probably overall it's 2". I never did like the levelled look but now that I have it, I am liking it.

Sounds awesome! The body roll on these trucks leaves something to be desired when driving hard. I also don't love the way the rear end tracks and will have to do something about it at some point.

One problem I noticed is it's about 1" less lift on the driver's side than on the passenger side. Couldn't avoid the damn taco lean even with a brand new strut... I know it's something that only I will notice, but it does annoy me.

Installed the solid transmission mount yesterday. This was a great upgrade. Having all three mounts as solid mounts really tightens up the shifting and makes for consistent throttle response. They aren't cheap but worth the money in terms of improving racetruck funness.

Damn, you're really selling me on these. And if the Roost y-pipe is still a six month wait....

Question: Is removing the transmission more difficult due to less (or no) flex from the motor mounts? Kind of curious about that

I was thinking about that too. There might be less flex to allow the engine to tilt down to let things line up. I thinks it will be OK though. There should be at least 1/2" of tilt even with the solid mounts since they aren't actually totally solid, they do have a urethane bushing in them that gives a decent amount of flex.

A friend of mine made this background edit of my truck when he was baked af. He said he barely remembered doing it.
