Looking at the Kelley Blue Book and what they offering for my 2019 Tacoma magnetic gray 4x4 kind of tempted to trade it in for a 2021 pro

Just rolled off the lot with a new 2021 Double Cab/6ft TRD Sport for 6% off the $46,xxx sticker + tax & tags. But the SWEET part of the deal was selling my 2012 Tacoma Double Cab/6ft to Carvana for $29,711! Almost seems like a mis-type...LOL

Good luck getting a pro haha. I can't believe used prices right now. I could probably sell the 2021 AG truck I just bought for a profit. The finance guy was trying HARD to sell me on GAP insurance and I just laughed in his face. I will never be under water on this loan.

How much effort have you put into not just getting quotes, but making actual offers (via email) to buy at a certain price? If all dealers reject your price then you can start asking them what their Costco discount price is. It will vary alot between dealers and some dealer are not participating.

Never feel bad for a car dealership.

Truecar used to be good, now they're crap since they became integrated with car dealerships. Don't trust them to give you honest info anymore.

I checked Costco and not a single dealer around here is now using them ha Costco said none were up to their standards or something like that. Not surprised since the dealers can sell right at msrp without a problem right now.

    https://www.caranddriver.com/research/a32883138/truecar-value-what-you-need-to-know/

Truecar acts as a middleman between dealership and consumer. They get paid by the dealerships, not the consumer. Therefore they have incentive to push consumers to certain dealerships that partner with them. You may have gotten $2800 off, but you may have been able to get that deal or better on your own if you tried.
Could you provide a breakdown of your deal? Would be interesting to see.

Not sure if he actually bought a truck or just got "hooked up with a dealer." My experience with Truecar last month was getting "hooked up" with 2 different dealers who sent me locked in offers at below MSRP. Both dealers said they already had sold the trucks when I responded with questions within 2 hours of receiving said offers. However then they tried to push a truck that I didn't even want. Tried Truecar again about 10 days later and one of the dealers from before sent me a locked in offer for the same truck they told me 10 days prior that they had already sold! Big waste of time and questionable tactics.

I used that $2800 to negotiate with my local dealer. Ended up getting $2500 plus $500 Toyota incentive off an msrp of $45022. So 6.66% off. Full breakdown was back a page or two.

So I didn’t end up using them or that dealer, just as leverage on what I thought was a good deal. Especially in this market.

Admittedly not much effort other than getting the internet sales person to tell me a price on a specific VIN either on their lot or in their allocation (using @_kmg_ spreadsheet)
I'm telling myself I'm not that serious and don't NEED it. Last year when I almost bought one I was pretty aggressive, on the phone, running spreadsheets for tracking, etc. - then my job got cut down so im glad i didnt have to take on a payment!

    Agreed!

Thanks for several others who replied/commented. i have my answer on this. Appreciate it!

I reached out to nearly every dealer within a 3 hour drive with what I wanted. My only real requirements was 6ft bed, 4x4, and V6. After awhile dealerships would reach out to me letting me know what was in stock or on the way. I made an effort to answer their calls for a week or two. Once I started to get one dealer to cut $1000 off, I'd leverage that against another. In the end I was able to get about $2300 off MSRP and the $1000 rebate right before it ended. Total discount was a little over 8% from MSRP.

I'm paying $40,000 OTD for a 2021 Tacoma TRD OR, 4X4 with 6ft bed. I'm in Texas where the taxes are pretty stiff (8.25%). I'm basically paying MSRP ($40,735) for it.
