So... what happens if I run regular with the premium tune? With this little bit of gas retardation I had to hit four gas stations before I was able to find 93, so, if push comes to shove and I need to put a tank or two of 87 through it should I look at getting re tuned?

Quick short term solution .... put in a can of octane boost with your fill up .... easier in the short term than reflashing.

See above for the octane learning range. You would be best off running the standard tune and putting in 91 to get some benefits if you're not able to get premium regularly or expect to go out of town where it's less available. Otherwise, a booster may help as mentioned, I may need to get some myself just in case. So far, no new keys from OVTune so I can't flash back to an 87 tune, stuck on 91 at the moment. I plan to go back to regular and run 87 to 91 depending on gas prices.

If you do run 87 on the premium tune, performance will be degraded as it does not learn down that low, so some pinging etc may occur.

So, prem on reg tune - fine and can learn up to 90.
Reg on prem tune - not so good, can't learn down to 87.
This is my understanding, hope that helps!

I don't think it would grenade the engine like a race car on regular or anything if it's temporary and premium is put back in again, but it would not be the best for it.

KDMax 6.0 LT treating me better with each tank. @PapaRee do you make a different tune for Gears/Tire Size variations, like OVTune does? I read most of this thread, but can't recall if this was already answered? I am considering those upgrades in my near future.

This is why I run the regular tune.
But in an emergency, you can run regular octane. I did it to test and ran a whole tank of regular on the premium tune--it did not blow up, LOL
It had pinging at high load and low rpm-- like when it was cruising at low rpm and I gave it the gas.

So if you are on the Premium tune and find yourself in an area with no premium fuel, you can--temporarily put in regular octane.

What @PapaRee said, or do like I do, run a premium tune and carry a bottle of (good quality) octane booster in case of situations like what you just experienced.

Hi all, new here. Looking to get my '21 manual tuned near Burlington, VT. Also have some work travel taking me to Boston and Teaneck, NJ in upcoming weeks. Who can help me out!? Thanks!

Get yourself some jerry cans. I’m in a hurricane prone area, so I keep 6 5L cans. 2 are Wavian, 4 are Midwest Cans. Would recommend either.

Told my friend I got a new truck...
    friend: "what did you get?"
me: "an orange '17 Tacoma OR MT with 80k miles on it"
friend: "wait, that's your current truck!"
me: "yeah but the new one drives like a tall rally car now..."

Two weeks Anno-KDMAX and I'm slowly losing memory of my old truck and its weird drivetrain.
Sort of like that ex-girlfriend that you finally took off the pedestal.

    Manual transmission musings:
    Better performance
Better mpg (15.5mpg -> 17.5-20mpg) at 80mph indicated. (how is this even...?!)
    Better driveability
First time comfortably past 100 (hush)
    Removed rev hang
Easier gear to gear shifting aka more snick-snick.
    Power and responsiveness below 3k
Ability to drive and hold one gear higher
Less shifting overall (approx 20% less)

No longer needs asthma inhaler before heading up Little Cottonwood Canyon, UT.
Less danger pulling into traffic... no more clutch, shift, clutch, wait for accumulator to allow revs, take off with a jerk.
Drivetrain no longer says "I'll bloody well get around to your accelerator inputs when I damn well feel like it!"
Toy engineers must have applied a random number generator to fill the fueling tables.
No more clutch and time-space continuum management

OV/KDMAX added another cylinder and took out the rubber bands to the back wheels.
Best ~$450 spent on this truck (OVTuner + KDMAX)
It's now even more of a joy to drive

    Went through your neighborhood today...
Clocked it and 22 mpg and change from the Main street to Tumwater Costco. What do you see on yours?
We took a ~650 miles trip around Olympic Peninsula. A lot of windy ups and downs. My fill ups where at Costco only.
1st fill up came out 22 mph tank average @ 250 mile driven.
2nd was 21.8 mph tank everage at 397 miles driven. This fill up also counts 30 miles of the forest road.
On the trip I was getting between 21.5 to 24.6 trip average based on road conditions and speed limit.

I live in Denver but on my trips up to the mountains I get way better MPG's than I did previously on stock and on 2.0. Used to see about 12mpg's on 35's with full armor and with KD even up the canyon was hitting 16mpg's.

As for MPG on the 91/93 LT tune, I have been getting anywhere from 19-22mpg on trips 10 miles or greater.

Trips less than 5ish miles result in 15-16mpg.

All city driving. No highway miles (yet) to report on for this tune.

So I finally got through being sick and getting back to getting my truck tuned properly. I have read this from front to back and think it is time to up from ov2.0 on my 18 manual. Seems like for my heavy truck sitting on 34s the MAX is best. Being in Germany, thank you Uncle Sam, provided it all works out on my truck how would one become an "authorized" person to tune? I understand the VF part but just curious on the rest. Can one of you PM me so I can get this ball rolling, at least get mine tuned?
