This is terrible and Toyota should be ashamed . Most people take great care of their vehicles and for this to happen so soon is BS . I looked at a white one but settled on blue and glad I did now but feel bad for you all because that would be enough for me to get rid of my truck . Good luck and I hope they decide to repaint for all .

I completely agree man. It makes me so sad considering how much I have done to my truck in the he last 4 years....I have accessories galore. But, now I'm just tempted to sell off the truck after I part it out. Thinking of going with a completely different manufacturer now.

I considered it myself. Toyota doesn't care, and my guess is that they aren't going to until it starts affecting sales.

This thread is wild. I don't have this white paint issue but it's disappointing to see so many folks having trouble getting it fixed when it's a clear defect.

I have this same issue and my dealership told me to kick rocks so I have bought touch up paint online and done it myself but it looks crappy. Its been a real bummer.

If Toyota is footing the bill for a full repaint as they should, I'd probably request a different color.

Well damn, I've heard of several Toyota customers being taken care of with paint repairs, since Toyota knows their single stage super white paint has adhesion problems. I take it you've tried contacting corporate?

There are recalls on other Toyotas (Corolla, Camry, Rav4, etc.), same paint, same issues. No recalls for Tacomas (yet). Maybe when it starts affecting sales? Unless it's inside 30k/36months, they aren't doing anything for us. I paid $1300 to have mine repaired.

And yes, corporate knows. I've contacted them a few times and get the stiff-arm like everyone else.

I'm sure they have a ratio of complaints to numbers produced causing a few things happen. One, it's hard to get the numbers up to an actionable point when there are so many more Tacoma's than the other Toyota vehicles. Two, once they do add Tacomas to the list they are going to get flooded with claims.

Always looking to modify! Check out my Instagram @TacoPandaTRD
I’ve been following this forum for a bit. Dealt with the super white peeling on RAV4’s. It’s a real shame this has been happening!! Is it true that the paint was changed for 2020 and newer?

Doubt it. Lots of people have said/hoped that the year they bought theirs was the year it changed.

Well guys good news. I finally got my truck back from the paint shop last week. My local dealer finally worked with me and sent it to their body shop. It took 10 days to paint but they ended up doing all four doors and the two front fenders since all of those had signs of peeling. It was about a $3,000 job that they covered. My truck has always been meticulously well taken care of by me so pretty much after this paint the truck looks brand new. So for you guys in the same situation keep truckin on. I hope yours gets repainted eventually.

How did you eventually get the local dealer to work with you? I'm having the same issues you did. Such a bummer and frustrating. Thanks for the help.

I just kept bugging one of my local service guys despite there still being no recall. Once I finally started showing the truck peeling under the hood on the fenders I think he finally took me more seriously. I kept also mentioning about other guys on the threads saying it was repaired on "good will". But yeah my peeling got soooo bad. Around 4 windows and both front fenders.

If you have this issue, DONT GIVE UP! Go to more than one dealer if you have to and especially if your usual dealer isn't listening. Speak, KINDLY, not to a service guy but the service manager. Show him your truck and this thread's photo proof of countless consistent issues with all the usual suspects (i.e. doors and front fenders).

BE SURE you show up with a very clean truck. That will show the issues better and it will show that you maintain your truck.

Ask him if he can reach out to his regional contact, not just a corporate hot line, on the paint issues and see if "good will" coverage for the issue exists (BTW it DOES exist but is on dl until Toyota officially acknowledges the issue with the 3rd Gens. The issue is that, relative to the other covered vehicles which date back to 2012, the 3rd Gens are 4 years behind on the issue acknowledgement curve but it's likely to happen at some point in near future.).

My truck just started that process today and the body shop my dealer works with says they are seeing this issue more and more, especially recently. That means the paint, more so for 17s than any of the other 3rd gen years, will start to have issues on a wider scale soon if not already. The result is that this will likely move past a "good will" program and into an official warranty acknowledgement. The point is, don't give up and keep trying.

Toyota isn't only one have the paint problem.. Other manufacturers too.

If you like the truck design, then consider to get it repainted or wrap it with vinyl wraps.

Toyota can cover the paint as long as same color based on your VIN. If you want a different color, then you pay for it since the warranty won't cover different color unless you take it to the local paint shop (not talking about Toyota paint shop) so you have paint warranty...
