New member looking for advice

Guys, OP literally asked for thoughts because he gets lost in the shit talking and then we proceeded to rip him a new one via shit talking over the Pro, the color, and his girl. Like really? Not a good look for TW.

Hopefully y’all know some people local to where he wants to go and tag them to get their experience there, that’s what he really needs.

Good luck OP. FWIW I have a stock height Offroad on skinny 235/85R16s (32s) with rock sliders and an aftermarket IFS skid and drive through challenging enough stuff perfectly fine. I don’t have any experience in your location tho.

 

Well I appreciate everyone who gave real advice and the kind words. I love the truck, but I feel that there's room for improvement.

Anyways... I don't want to go full long travel since she will be taking it out occasionally and she's new to all of this.

But I'll look into the kings. Anyone riding on the kings with the adjusters? I think it'd come in handy if I ever need a midsize truck for truck stuff.

No advice from me...but welcome to TW! Glad to see you already understand the dynamics of the forum. Unfortunately, you have to wade through all to BS of the haters and jerks to find the wisdom at times. But, there are a ton of people here who are helpful and offer great ideas. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do to your Pro.

 

Why don’t you see if you actually need a lift first ? The pro sits higher than the off road and has fox shocks on it .you can do a simple thing like bigger tires will give you a little more ground clearance if you want more . Unless your planning to do rock crawling the stock lift is sufficient enough.

 

This is not always true. Depends on the truck I suppose. I have 33's, have done a good amount of trailing, no rubbing, no CMC.

 

99% of people with 33s rub at some point under flex, many folks who say they don’t rub technically still have it but minor enough they don’t care.

It comes downs wheel spec, tires, the trails to run etc. driving down a fire road with a 255/85 is much different than hitting a rock crawl trail with a 33x12.5

 

I have TRD Pro wheels (different offset from stock Off Road) 285/75/16, and had my alignment tech adjust max caster. I drove a week through CO..checked my CM for rubbing. Nothing for me. But you're correct, it's different for a lot of people.

 

I’m glad you don’t rub on the roads you drive. I’ve been on this forum long enough to see pro wheels rub, 265/75 rub and people who say they don’t rub come back and admit they do.

An exception should not be considered an expectation and it’s better to set good expectations early with new members.

 

This is why I said "moderate offroading with no rubbing at all" and "if you don't mind a little rubbing". Running down fire trails where every cool guy in a Subaru can go isn't offroading. When I first installed my lift (Kings all around, TC UCA, Dever leafs, ect) I took it for an alignment and asked them to push as much caster as possible, when I picked it up they told me that company policy was to only go to factory specs, to say I was pissed would be an understatement because I only had about 3/4" between my brand new 33x12.5 tires and the cab mount. I immediately took it to a different shop and they did the alignment the way I asked which gave me considerably more room between the tire and cab mount, but it would still rub at full lock or under flex.

All the being said, I would recommend you take the new girl out, both truck and lady, and test out the pro suspension. You may want to invest in sliders and skids first after seeing how capable it is stock.

I offroad weekly, and I mean actual trails, not just service roads. No rubbing ever so far. No CMC and I'm on a 2.5" lift, but from what I've read the lift doesn't matter to get skinnies to work without rub.

 

I hear you. I took Red Cone, Radical Hill, Black Bear Pass, among others. Checked for rubbing at every stop. No rubbing. Is that the most extreme off-roading? No, but it's my experience.

An exception does not make a rule, I agree, but I'm just reporting it as is the case for me and others on this forum who have had similar results.

I don't think I want to chop up the truck, but the I'll go Edward scissor hand all day on the wheel wells if I have to.

That's a good idea. I took the truck to Claghorn, fire road with obstacle out turns, to play with the jeeps and it did great, but I still couldn't do all of the obstacles I did in my bro's 4runner cuz of the clearance. I might not have b***hed out if I had full under armor though.

As far as sliders, any super low pro ones out there? I made the pair on my X that hugged the bottom. They just took forever (months) to perfect, I'm not a pro welder what so ever.. but I loved the fact that they were small enough to not even notice unless you needed them. I'm 6'2 so I do not need a step side.

Also, the dealer didn't have time to install the factory roof rails. Is it worth it for my to put them on or should I just go to an upgraded one? Are they just as easy to take off as they seem to put on?

 

The off road is basically missing the suspension, beefier skid plate, and wheels. The rest is pretty much cosmetic.

 

Just got my Icon RXT leaf's delivered. Waiting for Eibach to come out with their TRD pro springs to get a bit of a lift with the stock TRD Pro suspension. Check out the RSG Rock sliders. Shipping took a bit but they are solid. Great color btw.

 

I pretty much did the same thing as you did. And for the OP:
I came from owning a 2001 Nissan Xterra as well and had a blast with it.
I have 2019 pro. To maximize the use of your Fox suspension, i did the Westcott design lift. I got 2 3/4 inch out of it for the front and 2 AAL Icons that gave me the 3 1/2 for the rear. I like the rake in the rear plus, the extra gears I carry.. I have no problems rubbing with Falken Wildpeaks 285/75 r16 and since I got the Addictive Dessert (honeybadger) front bumper with winch. If you plan on doing some off roading, might consider or just do the cmc or the cab mount relocation.

There are quite some options to look into.
There's Prinsu, Upton, DV8 etc.. really up to you how you want or what purpose you plan on using the the roof top.. Good luck!

 

The rubbing generally comes from the width of the tire, not the the height. Have you considered going with 255s? You can put a true 33 on there with no other mods and keep your Pro suspension.
