I just read something from a local news channel, had some transcripts in it. Tower was asking the cirrus if he overshot final.

Just judging by the hole in the Metroliner, I’d assume the Cirrus hit it.

I'm not sure where that post was going but those headstones in the runway are located at the Savannah Hilton Head Airport (SAV), due north of Sheltair on 10/28.

Always a good assumption with a Cirrus pilot!

I didn't get a chance to make it up there this week. Some people got some great shots of the takeoffs this morning with some visible prop vortices. That airport has one of the best backdrops for photos.

I’m sure it does, but the visibility was only 8 miles yesterday and I could barely make out the mountains to the west.

That bird must be a converted or part-time fire bomber, because he has all of the new missile evasion doodads that were added to the H models.

...still can't hit the Herc because it's already out of range by the time the grenade is launched. That doesn't stop the idiots from trying...and identifying themselves to airfield sentries (who then get to hunt them down).

It was far more effective for hostiles to try to hit the birds parked with makeshift mortars, even though they weren't successful they could reach other targets.

The "horns" above the cockpit, and the bulges on the rear part of the fuselage are part of a defensive camera system nicknamed the Ogre (at least that's what my brother, a C-130 FE called it). It's officially an MWS, or "missile warning system." If it "sees" an inbound MANPAD it automatically starts throwing flares and making a whole lot of racket inside the cockpit to "encourage" evasive maneuvering.

Since no one shoots missiles at dedicated fire bombers, I figured the unit had to slide in on the rails and be removed the same way for maintenance and cleaning.
