I think the only advantage to being in CA, if you actually are fortunate enough to be a homeowner there is, later on down the road if you plan on selling the house and downsizing someplace else cheaper lol.

I don't think you could buy a 10x10 shed in CA for what I bought my house for HAHA

    Nah, fuck that.
If I magically didn’t have to work anymore, I’d have to open a shop or something to keep busy. Otherwise I’d probably kill myself within a few days.
I sometimes get aggravated on weekends if I don’t have something productive to do.

Who says that if you didn't work you'd sit on your ass doing nothing?

I'll always be busy. I just want to be busy doing things I want to do, not shit other people tell me to do haha.

I was never busier than when I was unemployed.

    Pretty much.

But additionally I don't always have to be doing something that pays me. I mean if someone wants to pay me to run all day, I wouldn't say no.

    @St. Swervus (or anyone else).
Do you have experience high altitude hiking in snow?

I'm set to be out in the rockies for 10 days starting memorial day weekend and it looks like everything is still relatively snow covered. Wondering if anyone has any gear recommendations?

I think it may be a wise idea to get a set of waterproof gaiters and some micro spikes.

Temps should be right around freezing at night, which I hope helps prevent miles of post-holing.

I don't spend too much time above say 8k but as far as snow? Yeah, lots. Def. need gaiters, spikes, poles. Also wool glove liners, sunglasses. Something else to think about: If you use a water line (pouch in your pack w/a feeder tube) it will freeze if it's good and cold out. Meaning no water draw. They make insulated sleeves for them. Lots of other tips as well. Do some searching around. Sounds simple but remember that snow is tiring. I did a 4k elevation gain hike recently. Only 13 miles. Kicked my ass way more than trips with double those #s. Snow is difficult. Or can be. FWIW I postholed a fair bit on that trip. Exhausting. And beautiful.

Temps should be between 30 at night/early morning to 65 in the day. So it shouldn't be too cold, especially once the sun comes out.

I know chap stick and sun screen are going to be important. Especially if there is snow since it basically is a giant mirror magnifying UV rays at you.

If I need them I hope I can rent snow shoes. Spring snow is going to be more soggy but I'm hoping it being 30 at night helps the snow stiffen up in the morning. I will get some spikes. I think they will be necessary to stay safe on ridge lines.

I'm told to stay the hell away from the bases of trees in the snow. They'll suck you in and kill you.

The brahs in the CO forum told me to get snow shoes so I got me a pair. I was also able to score a pair of knee high goretex gaiters and a pair of Topo Trailventure high tops (I hate boots). The used REI site and I are now best friends. I got $450 worth of gear for like $200.

I just need some micro spikes.

Luckily as a year round runner and bow hunter I have all the clothing I need. The only thing I may need is a pack that will carry my snow shoes. I think it's going to suck to be out there in the AM and only need the micro spikes but not have a good pack to carry the snow shoes.

This is going to be a week of some ass kicking workouts.

Does anyone here have any experience snowboarding? My husband snow boards, I have never tried it. If the snow out there looks halfway decent and it's not crowded AF I may spend a day taking a lesson.

Snowboarding is a lot of fun. If you haven't done it before, I wouldn't take the lesson prior to your hike - do it after. You will be sore from recruiting muscles to be used in a way they have not been before and from falling.

For sure. It would be the kind of thing if the hiking doesn't work out we'd snow board. But I'm not sure the snow conditions are going to be the best for it. Because it will be 60 during the day and freezing at night. So it will essentially be icy if we don't get snow at night while there.

Honestly, I kept up with IF because I think it's a grave inconvenience to have to eat. Those days I fasted all day it was so nice to leave for work not worrying about meal planning and packing anything.

    You get used to it.

Your last meal of the day make it high protein, high fat, low carb. Carbs will fuck up your hunger level. Fasted cardio also helps your body learn to burn body fat during your fasts, which I felt helped me adjust to the fasting faster.

Curious about this, could you elaborate? Specifically the carbs and hunger level correlation.

I don't have any of the science behind it, but can subjectively confirm the results. If I have too many carbs, or just intake too many crap-carbs, I just seem to be hungrier and/or want more of the carbs.

Carbs stimulate hunger because they raise insulin levels (which stimulates hunger). Fasting decreases insulin so over time as your insulin levels become more stable and low, you just are hungry less.

    In the morning I eat:

    1 fried egg

raw oats topped with 1/2 apple diced, 1 banana thinly sliced, blueberries, cinnamon powder sprinkled on it & 2% milk poured on top. I eat it like cereal.

No way I’m giving up breakfast
