So I had this happened to me 3 times to me now and it's really bugging me. As I'm driving down this grade following as it winds to the right doing about 47mph, the truck acts like its downshifting and locks the steering up for about a second, then it everything is ok after that. A second too long as I'm not expecting it and could off resulted into an accident . The first 2 times that it happened I thought may be my gas light was on and swaying to the right made the truck starve for fuel as the fuel shifted. Well the same thing happened last night as I was coming home from work but this time I had a half of tank of gas. So it got me to thinking if my truck ( 2017 TRD OF DC w/ automatic ) was on the fuel pump recall. Looked up my VIN# and my truck has no open recalls on it. So I actually drove back up the grade and drove the same way I did back down when the truck was acting up but it nothing happed this time. I'll try to see if I can get a video as I drive home for work tonight. Has anybody experienced this happening to them, it's pretty scary? Please help me find out what the culprit is. Need to find out what's going on before I start investing more money int mods etc. I've only had the truck for about 6 months now. You guys are very knowledgable, hopefully somebody can help. Thanks and have a great day!

When you say locks, are you saying that the steering wheel locks? I'm a little confused because then you go on to mention the fuel pump, which would be unrelated.

It happens so fast, it's hard to say. I can't tell if the truck actually shuts off or maybe the steering pump quit. I've tried to replay in my head a thousand time and can't pin point it. I'll try to get a video coming home tonight.

Are u sure it's not just the downshift or possibly skid control?

No, it's not shifting. It's my daily route going home and it's never downshifted. I didn't know these trucks had "skid control". What is skid control and what does it do?

More than likely the vehicle stability control. The truck thinks you’re gonna wiff the corner. I’ve had that happen a few times

    Yeah.
So, maybe a dumb question but have to ask. Are you in 4WD on pavement when this happens?

    VSC (Vehicle Stability):
Helps the driver to control skidding when swerving suddenly or turning on slippery road surfaces.

If you were skidding, you'd likely see the skid dash light flashing, and possibly a buzzing/beeping sound, letting you know traction control was activated.

Auto LSD, where the truck uses braking to simulate a LSD.

In my experience it results in a feeling of "shutter" when applying auto LSD/traction control. Really only seems to affect acceleration for me though, and generally the dash lights will yell at you to let you know what's up.

That was my first thought when they mentioned "front end locks up".

Need more info about conditions, wet/ dry/ snowy / cold / ? ABS lights? TCS, VSC lights? wheel hop?
There is one spot on my commute where I've got a closing turn with a road seam through the middle - if I'm braking at that spot the wheel hops and ABS kicks in.. it does it predictably, and my 2nd gen did the same.

Dry pavement, warm sunny, driving normal. Have driven this route for the last 6 months with the same truck and recently started doing it within the last 3 weeks.

Are you lifted at all, this typically happens when the abs/wheel sensor has been stretched.

    Yeah.
Well, then, you may be on to something with the fuel pump thought, but this is an odd one. Stability control is an idea as well. If, when it downshifts on a curve, it is abruptly shifting weight and settling the suspension, stability control may be briefly cutting in and cutting fuel, thinking you are about to lose control. This would be my bet. Try to note what the suspension is doing when it does this. If the weight has already shifted and suspension settled when it downshifts, you would likely not see it, but if they happen at the same time you might see it. But, you should see a light unless it is super brief.

Yes I'm lifted, 2.5-3” Old Man EMU lift with 285's. No rub on the dip. What I don't understand why is it happening now?

VSC probably. I have a problem of setting it off if I’m coming in hot on a turn. Almost sent me into a ditch on a freeway merge ramp. The steering and brake do a weird thing for a second
