    Unless you have the manual hub intermediate shaft like me instead of the stub shaft on the ADD intermediate shaft assembly.

    I only say that based on from what other people have told me. Where are they switched from manual hubs to ADD spindle and CV with the manual hub intermediate shaft on the diff. But you're probably right.
    I thought on ADD trucks, the front drive shaft doesn't spin until you engage four-wheel drive and the ADD actuator engages the other cv axle

    That is true, on factory ADD trucks the front driveshaft is disengaged in 2wd. I can crawl under the truck and rotate the front driveshaft by hand to grease all the zerks.

    Having swapped my ADD hubs for manual hubs, I would agree with most of the sentiment here. The benefits are not worth it in retrospect. It gives the truck an "old school cool", but that is about it. I haven't noticed much gain in MPGs, and makes maintenance a bit more time consuming. Some serious carnage above :eek:. I have yet to break mine, but I'm sure it's only a matter or time....

    ... So anyone interested in some used manual hub swap parts I have for sale? :D

    I think I have an ADD stub shaft you can have. Might not be the cleanest thing as it's been sitting in the junk pile a while now.

    you will be fine, I never broke them until I geared and locked the truck on 35s. With stock gears and 35s I never had an issue.

    I notice about 2mpg better with the hubs unlocked, when my truck was a DD it made a big difference.

    Correct. The driveshaft will spin when the ADD actuator is engaged.

    Yep, tru nuff.

    Many moons ago the generally well respected fabricator/owner of Trails Less Traveled ran that set up. He went so far as to claim 18 MPG. That was a 3rz at 70 mph, 35"mt's, 529 gears, a ton of armor, a pig of an Atlas and the aerodynamics of a parachute. Humorous to say the least

    No, my truck was never ADD and I see no reason to swap it. I'm still on the manual hub setup.

    I tried to add a "little" bling and spruce up the appearance of my 03 DC. I re installed my factory skid plate that I re-painted. I don't do any hardcore off road trails or anything. For me it's something to keep small critters and such from flying up into my engine bay. And it will serve as a brush guard for fire roads.
    My poor 18 year old clam shell rims are showing they're age. I tried to clean them up a bit, and I replaced the center caps with some off brand knockoffs. they look okay. And I replaced my chrome lug nuts with black ones. thought a little contrast would look good. But after the tire shop gets done rotating my tires next time, I wonder how the paint will hold up on them. At least with them being black, I can always touch them up with a rattle can.

    Yea maybe 18mpg downwind and downhill lol.

    Thanks but I think i'm just gonna stick with the manual hub setup until I start (if) grenading parts. I have a set of ADD spindles and OEM axles on deck for if I ever decide to swap over.
