I had a throttle body spacer on my 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 but it had ports, one of which held a nozzle which led to a Methanol tank in the trunk.

There really isn't much you can do to add power to a normally aspirated engine short of forced induction. You might add a little power with an intake and opened exhaust but you mostly just add sound.

Short term review update... roughly 300 miles.

MPG... so increases as of yet, but no decrease either.

Performance... well I have no dyno so I can’t say for sure, but it does feel a little bit “snappier!” It’s not Supra by any means, but it does seem to have a little bit of a different feel in the throttle. It definitely seems to have a more crisp feeling while shifting and peddle feel seems to be a bit more responsive via the TBW system. While heavy on the gas, it seems to rev a little faster between 2700-3500 RPM’s and again between 4500-6000 RPM’s. So I guess the old “butt-dyno” says it made gains in low-end as well top-end of the power bands. As far as normal driving (putting around town), I’ve noticed nothing worth reporting... other than the sound of a slight whistle every once in a while.

Maybe with any luck, I will have better MPG’s to report after I can run a couple tanks of fuel through her. Only time will tell. Will do another long term report in the future. As for now, I’m happy with my decision to add a TB spacer. For the price, I would definitely say go get one to all of you.

...I know there are plenty of TB haters out there. Don’t be an idiot and flood this with all your BS. This is just an informative post of actual real-life experience with a TB spacer.

    -Cheers!

There another review of proof glad you got one I love mine it really whistles if you have a combo with open box intake

:rofl:This reminds me of the tornado fuel saver thing from the 90's. At least that useless POS would actually swirl the air.

"rifled" TB spacers at the TB valve are not going to do anything useful as far as aerodynamics in the intake plenum. Air is a fluid, not a projectile. Research boundary layer stagnation and core air flow and you will see that the air in contact with the walls of the TB spacer is not even moving at all. The velocity is ZERO. There is so much turbulence immediately after the TB valve already and by the time any air parcel gets to the port where fuel is injected other aero effects have acted on it from the intake plenum design, anyway. The valve port and combustion chamber is where the real mixing occurs and there is a ton of CFD and engineering that goes into a design that works well for various pressure deltas. I think mazda released some whitepapers on this subject when the first generation of the skyactiv engines were produced, worth a read if you're interested in this kind of stuff.

The theory behind TB spacers doesn't add up when compared to the physics of how the TB/intake plenum work. Adding volume to the intake plenum might have some part throttle effect from changing the rpm that the intake ports get a little extra pressure from pressure wave tuning, but at WOT that effect is pretty much zero because the TB valve is fully open so there is no reflection. Intake runner length is really the only place that pressure wave tuning makes much difference and Toyota already tuned the intake to make full use of this effect with the variable intake manifold. One could argue that installing a manifold spacer between the head and plenum would have some effect, and it would change the rpm where pressure wave tuning benefits were at the most, but it would also space the injectors away from the ports and who knows what that would do to fueling dynamics. BBK Performance did a TB spacer comparison like 10 years ago. They bought a bunch of different TB spacers for a couple popular vehicles and dyno tested them all in a controlled, repeatable way. The results were that not a single TB produced any measurable gain in TQ, and some resulted in a small decrease. IIRC, they did this to see if there was any reason to invest in producing their own TB spacer.

Call me, and others, "haters" if you want. That's what the ignorant say when they want to ignore facts that don't support their opinion.

BTW, K&N filters also show gains/losses within the data margin of error when independently tested on vehicles with properly sized air filters, but they sure let in a more dirt! One test went as far as removing the filter completely and it made such a small difference, it was also chalked up to margin or error for the data.

I have a 2017 skyactive mazda 3 and the exhaust manifold is quite elaborate and the 13:1 compression ratio is very high for a car running 87 octane but it all works. I get as much as 42mpg on the highway with cruise set at 70mph. Then I drive the Tacoma and get 15mpg.

Just the facts throttle body spacers on this type of fuel injection don't have actual performance gains. On the other hand some make an expensive whistle.

Screenshot_20210513-201851_DuckDuckGo.jpg would this fit a 21? I'm assuming so since it says it fits a 19. Figured this thread would be a good place to ask
