A lot of 3.5s run on Otto cycle, I don’t see how it would impact longevity.

Simulated Atkinson cycle just holds the intake valve a bit open during compression stroke at low loads. Full Otto cycle is just like 90% of the engines out there.

My engine has more power with better MPGs now, it’s great!

5 years owned and nothing but a battery. Nothing.
Pull a 4000-5000 lb horse trailer 55mph on a 2 way road with no concerns. Solid and straight.
Firestone airbag lift (0 sag, adjustable, would buy again in a second), dual axle trailer has electric brakes. Monitored tranny temps and they stay normal even in 98 degree ambient.
Keep hearing all this bs about this engine but it pulls better than my 4.0 did. Check out the gauntlet tow for proof.

That torque monster, lol, is a long gone old tech dino.
I run circles around a 4.0 once off the line. 4.0 just bogs down in upper rpm's, 3.5 kicks.

Nice to see this thread finally make it to it's inevitable conclusion.

"Honey get my keys please. I gotta run into town and sell the truck. Nope, some dude on the internet convinced me with his emotional appeal, apparently it sucks now. ...I don't know, I guess I'm not buying anything. We're just going to sit at home, stare out the window, and yell at all the unenlightened that are driving those unreliable cars."

4.0 dies at 5k. The 3.5 just keeps on going. With the tune it can go to 7k no problem, feels great. I laugh when 4.0s try to fuck with me on the road.

Many won't agree with you but it is so true. 4.0 is good for about 2 seconds off the line, then the glory ends.
I even have a 2017 Tundra Pro and the taco seems to kick out better.
Don't get me wrong. both trucks are more useful in their own ways. For example in mountains the tunny is the choice.

Few people believe the 3.5 has a turbo under the intake, hence the kick after the lag:rofl:

I bought a tacoma for reliability this truck has been nothing but a headache. This truck is a 2019 TRD with automatic. I have currently 12k on it bought 9/19/2019. At around 3k the add oil light came on took to dealer they checked for leaks etc. put a dye in it check for leaks --NO LEAKS PUT MORE MILES ON IT. Take back to dealer who is documenting oil usage just now getting to poi nt where they are saying there is a problem supposed to take in in 2 weeks to get fixed as they say oil is being burned and going out exhaust pipe, smokes when you start it up.It is now 5/13/ 21 and problem still is not resolved. Had to put a new battery in it and had to wait 3 weeks for one as my dealer did not have one in stock and would not take one out of their trucks on lot unsold. I had to charge my battery after every use as I could not trust it to start. Mind you this happened in February in Iowa and it was sub zero weather. Mind you after a week they told me to come in a new battery and gave me a date to come in. I faithfully took truck in on appointed day and was told the battery did not come in. I was out 1 hour drive to and 1 hour drive home plus the gas for my troubles and back to charging my battery for another week. They washed my truck after putting battery in I drove truck home and hear a bang on my roof and discover my roof drip moldings flapping in the wind as I am driving home----back to dealer they just reattached with no adhesive glue etc. UPDATE they have since glued them in place and have held on so far but i have not run thru auto wash yet. Now the last thing it seems my transmission is always searching for a gear. You drive down the road on cruise control at 65-70 mph any little grade on a hill and transmission kicks down, engine rev2500-3000rpm, you get on level roadway it still is revving 3000rm for quite aways down road is it ever going to shift?? Finally it shifts this should not be. First toyota truck what a disappointment! Drove a 2021 stripped down tundra now that transmission is silky smooth! Only problem is short supply of trucks right now and they are not dealing supply and demand economics. They wanted 11000.00 and my truck for a bare bones tundra with just the power seat option. SO AM I EXPECTING TOO MUCH OUT OF MY TRUCK?? I think I have a right to whine.

sounds like your dealer is at least as much to blame...:notsure:

also, no disrespect, but if you bought your 2019 in 2019...how did you not know about the gear hunting issue with the AT? Did you not do your due diligence and research?

did not know it was a problem sorry! How about the oil consumption I suppose that is my fault too! The test drive never showed the gear searching.

So here’s a legitimate question to get the shit flying across the monkey cage -

Why don’t the Hilux, Land Cruiser or LC Prado run a 2GR?

I’ll add my 2 cents here, after having a Ford, Chevy, gmc, this Toyota is the best of the lot.. it’s only 6 weeks old, born March 21, 2021. No issues so far.

I had a 2006 4.0 manual and now a tuned 16 3.5 auto. I would choose my current combination every time. 265 tires on both. The 4.0 was more lively (not faster) on the low end, probably because of the clutch instead of TC, but it also ran out of breath around 4500 iirc, and the trans was not good. The 3.5 pulls harder and harder the more I rev it. It never runs out of breath. It could use lower gearing if you are towing a lot, but anyone that tows a lot with a Taco probably bought the wrong truck.
