Double Cab Sub Options?

What are the options for subs in the 4-door/double cabs?

I have two JL W6 10's that I'd love to use, along with an Alpine 4-channel amp and a Zapco 700w amp for the subs. The Zapco amp is huge (3 feet long or so)..

Any thoughts? Am i going to be able to squeeze this in?

 

It all depends on your mounting depth on your subwoofers. Plus whatever the specs for your cubic volume required for your speakers. I went with two 8" kicker SL5's and one Kicker amp.

there is a company that makes a box that installs behind the seats of the double cabs. i cant remember the name but they make a box that has a sub on each side and a amp in the middle as far as a 3foot long amp i dont think that will fit with this box.

 

Only thing I can tell you is "mounting depth" Tacomas dont have much of it I believe the maximum depth you can go with the box is 5.25 inches deep. I have the pioneer shallow mounts which are 3inches I love them. If I remember correctly my box was made by supercrew sound as well and I got it on ebay

 

Check with Mr. Marv on this site. He does amazing work! Custom sub boxes, amp racks, etc...

 

I think 5.25 might work for these subs.. What about room for travel?

 

I dont think those w6's will work.... it'll def be a tight squeeze if they do..

 

Should be on travel room. As long as the subs fit in a 5.25inch box you are good. My box has .6 cubic feet of space per chamber. Depending on the amp size u can probably fit the alpine in the center rack with L-shaped RCA's my pioneer was pretty small but I got straight RCAs and it wouldnt fit so I had to place it under the seat

 

Mounting depth for the w6's are 6.9 inches

I had some w3's before i got my tacoma. had to get rid of em =(

 

I'm doing something similar (I also have existing stuff).

Marv should be shipping the box (I need to doublecheck), but I will be housing a single JL 10W3v2 and the following amps:

Memphis MCA-3004 (18.5" long)
Memphis MCD1000 (15.8" long)


The biggest Zapco monoblock I could see was 24" long. I know I was pushing the envelope, so you might just be out of luck...

If you get the double box (supercrewsound) it says there is an option for 6 inch mounting depth. w3's say they are 5 7/8 inch. Maybe will work?

Depends on the version of W3. The W3v3 is larger, and Marv was very specific in letting me know that I needed the v2.

According to JL, the 10W6 mounting depth is 4.875, overall depth is 5.5.

This should fit, right? 0.75 additional for pole vent. 0.625 ft3 volume for sealed encl.. I'd like to do them both.

I don't have the truck yet.. is there room under the seat for the amp? Can the under seat storage be removed for amp storage?

 

Take the advice and get Mr. Marv to let you know. If they will fit, then have him build the box. You will not be disappointed.

 

The 10w3v3 has a mounting depth of 5.93". I was told that this was not recommended.

Good point, you didn't say which version you had, and a 10w6v2 (what everyone assumed) is much bigger.

Looking between the 10w6 and the 10w3v2, the 10w6 seems to almost match the same requirements or even take smaller measurements - though I would seek expert advice.

I'm not sure what this exactly adds to the measurement, that's why you need better advice.

According the what I have heard at Toyota Nation, it is unsafe and voids the warranty to install anything under the driver's seat of 2009 Tacomas due to the airbag system that is mounted there already. There is some room under the passenger side, but be mindful of seat movement and people kicking things.

I haven't seen that area used much, but I seem to recall somebody trying to put 8" subs in there. I know a guy used it for crossover storage. however, you would be hard pressed to fit an amp.

I think your greatest challenge at this point is the zapco amp. You will need some expert advice in that field first.
