Thanks guys, the wife and I put in TONS of hours and effort on these files. We actually considered buying a second tacoma with a MT just to keep the test train rolling but prices shot through the roof.

I'm pretty good at rebuilding engines, I might try and find one with 300k+ on it or even put my Copart membership to use and get a beat up one.

    *** Information ***

As we wind down on the MT tunes and the website, the wife and I decided to make a trip out west before work officially goes back to normal in June.

On the 19th we will be travelling from Cleveland to Fargo, ND. We will spend a day or so there before continuing on to Seattle and Portland. However, we aren't opposed to making a few stops on the way for anyone interested in getting the tune done. I already have tuners who handle the PNW so if you are around there and want it done, please contact them.

We currently have one scheduled stop in Fort Wayne, IN to get two trucks done.

If you are in the following states and want to get the tune installed, we will do so at a discounted rate since we will already be in the area:

    • Ohio
    • Northern Indiana
    • NE Illinois
    • Wisconsin
    • Minnesota
    • North Dakota
    • Montana
    • Northern Idaho
Plans are to be in ND the 20-21, PNW area 22-27, ND 28-30, and back to OH the 31st.

Not opposed to group meets for any tuning, unfortunately no wheeling stops since we would like to drive home with a working truck (I like battle scars on my vehicles).

Is this 12% increase on a future version? Butt dyno feels like there’s a 12% increase on the current version!

Current version was only a 5% map value increase over OV 2.0. The next versions will have the 12% more than that.

Sport will push it to borderline limp mode numbers but remain within tolerance to keep from tripping into that zone

    *** Important Request ***

I have a request for you guys and gals.

When you get the chance could you send me a photo of your OBD port? I need to see what year trucks have the appropriate wires hooked into it for ECU swaps. Some users have reported the absence of a chassis ground in newer models.

    OBD2-Connector-Pinout.jpg

Specifically needing to see if Pin 4 and Pin 13 have silver connectors inside your OBD port. Without it then we will need to look into an alternative method for completing ECU handshake procedures for those who may want pre-programmed ECUs or backup computers.

OP, I ran your tune for a full tank which took longer than I thought. Was lazy and stayed at home so most of my seat time was the mile or so it takes to get to work. It took a bit to get used to but I came to enjoy its pleasant demeanor that was capable to aggression when I put some more ankle grease into it, as well as rely on the predictability of giving her a little gas to get the upshift as I drive in the neighborhood.

I flashed to my previous tune on the next tank to see how it compared since it'd been so long. I do miss that predictability. When the engine is nice and settled, I can get it on this tune. But from a cold start, nah. I don't remember that happening with your tune and it is sorely missed. I'm excited to see what you come up with in the future.

In the next version I will be adjusting shift points slightly lower than they are in 2.0. This way those who need it to shift a little sooner can have that. But it will also help with MPGs since the torque will be increased more.

Glad you enjoyed the tune, I'll keep you posted when new versions are in the works.

Between that and +12% and map switching, the future is looking bright!

Tried ECT on the highway yesterday and wow. Truck holds gears when needed and/or downshifts with the quickness when climbing hills. Very responsive. This is great for keeping up your speed on heavy 33s with stock gears. On stock tune the truck would lose speed and you’d have to get into the gas before climbing any little hill. Drives awesome now. I imagine if I regeared it would be even better. From now on I’m pushing that ECT when I drive highway through the hills around here.

Just wait for 3.0 to finally develop. That 12% torque increase keeps me in 6th climbing hills here.

Just took a 100mi trip to PA for some TRD wheels, went into 4th twice the entire time

Tell me more about this 12% tq increase. I skinned the thread, didn't see any plots of logged data or dyno data but I didn't re-read everything.

I’ve had one run on a un calibrated dyno and I’m waiting for my next appointment at a calibrated one.

For torque numbers I’ve been monitoring the torque values recorded through OBD. F/B Torque and AUXS Torque (alternator) on mine has provided values for the torque produced by the engine at those sensors. Edits have increased these values roughly 12%. However the accuracy of this is unknown. It could well be 12% more at the belt drive and only 3% at the wheels. Time will tell.

It stands to reason that if the belt driven accessories and sensors are experiencing an increase, the engine must have received an increase as well.

I’ll have official numbers towards the end of this month when the performance shop can fit me in. I’m low priority with the appointment since I’m only paying for dyno time and not dyno tuning.

You think this 12% will be for both AT and MT?

If it’s produced at the engine then yes. The only difference will be AT shift points since I can increase the torque shift maps more. But you MT fellas can do that all by yourself with the fancy stick

Hmmm, interesting. I think the engine torque as far as the ECU parameters is a calculated number and not intended to be a real force measurement just a number to give other parameter based calcs values to use. That's my educated guess from test engineering/R&D work on mechanical systems and nothing more, though. I have seen direct correlation between engine load/rpm plots and dyno torque plots on other EFI engine logs. They were so well correlated that one could calculate ft/lb % gains at a given RPM and then verify them to be real on a dyno. I intended to make some baseline plots from stock 04B04 but the data sampling rate on VFTuner was so abysmal that it was useless for anything besides steady state data points. That was before the data logger improvements that were made in later VFTuner versions but I have not had the opportunity to collect more data so far and it looks like I won't untill early July.

My future dyno day will run Stock, OV 2.0, VR 2.0, VS 1.4, VR 3.4.1, and a few other experiments. Need to try and make it fast though since dyno time is expensive

Cool, that will be nice to compare. Going to do each from a reset LV to clear out learning or how will you reduce the variables?

I’m going to run regular for a week straight before the tests and clear engine/trans/and ECT LV after each reflash. I don’t want any carryover of learn values to interfere with a result. Each file should have time for 2-3 pulls.

I have an adjustable suspension so I’m going to run full stiffness in the rear and weigh down the bed to ensure it doesn’t slip the roller (doubt it but I want to minimize any variable I can think of)

Gearlock. Hoping someone with an MT can run a few at some point as well
