Can you imagine an ev Grave Digger? Seriously though, given how important it is to get off the line or out of a corner I think an evx would have a distinct advantage. Tractor pulls? No question at all. But it would be so wierd without the overwhelming racket.

People still race horses, have rodeos, privately own horses, etc. It's not like we're gonna Thanos-snap all ICE V8s away.

Racing is good for developement, regardless off energy source so I expect to see a variety of entries duking it out for primacy. In fact, racing has been the primary source of development for ICE so I don’t see that changing with different fuels. Daytona Beach to Dakar, Indy to Le Mans, racing has always been where the envelope gets pushed.

Indy cars moved from gasoline to methanol decades ago so a change to H2 doesn’t seem far fetched to me. Given that race designs alter yearly that finger snap is much more likely to occur in racing circuits than anywhere else. Once it becomes “possible” somebody’s going to try it and if it’s successful (ie wins) it will gain momentum. That progression happens in every sport whether it’s engineering, hardware, software, training, or diet, winning is and always has been the primary goal. If an ev dragster wins consistently then it will at the very least open up new classes since ICErs will get sick of losing and demand separation. Top fuel could be relegated to second tier status by not keeping up.

Yes majority of people in the us live in urban environments but the consumption of fuel to the number of people is not as direct as you may think it is. In an urban environment you have public transportation subways, buses, etc. So a large amount of people do not drive their personal vehicle. You go to rural areas which have people but also businesses: farming, ranching, mining, dairy farms. Their equipment and hd tractor trailers need petroleum to keep feeding the masses. What about the military? How much oil you think the military uses per day?

The population of LA county is greater than the population of the 10 least populated states. Even if only 1 in 10 drove there would be more people on LA freeways than all of any of those states. I don’t think you quite conceive the vastness of commuter traffic in major cities compared to rural America. There’s a city bus and more for every combine in the country and both can be run on hydrogen. Jet fuel will be one of the last to be replaced if at all but increased use of military drones greatly decreases the need. You can point out challenges, they will always exist, but they will also have solutions. Fossil fuels are not irreplaceable, what’s true is that all of our efforts in development over the past two centuries have focused on them. Our toys, tools, and traditions have become enmeshed with them to the point some can’t even conceive of any other way and seem to worship the stuff. They enabled the industrial revolution but it’s become abundantly clear that we cannot continue to use them so prolifically. I’ve been paying farm subsidies my entire life so I’d just as soon pay for transitioning to hydrogen instead of buying corn for ethanol.

Oh damn I was also thinking. For electric trucks :

add 33” 35” or 37” tires and not worry about re-gearing or transmission issues with the bigger tires . Also the shitty gas mileage. Just loss of “range” which is a few extra pennies at the electric charger .

Towing heavy ass things , no worry about smoking that clutch or needing to monitor the autos transmission temp ( major rape occurs to the poor automatic transmission when hauling frequently and especially up steep grades). EV , again just pull over every 100 miles and recharge that bitch for 3 bucks or what ever . Seems like a small hassle vs a broken transmissions, 100s of dollars in gas /diesel and being a turtle up any hill with a trailer.

Yeah seems like if you were pissed enough with society you could get like 20 solar panels lay them out and charge ur truck. You would never need to rely on a pipe line , oil tanker or functioning gas station ever again

    Coming as in 2027??

Gen 4(possible hybrid) is looking like 23' or 24'. Best case Electric Tacoma scenario is 2026. More than likely a few yrs after that.

Just look at Toyota's lineup will tell you next Gen won't be EV. Tacoma is getting built on the same line as the Tundra. The next Tundra is likely 6cylinder turbo with a possible blend of hybrid. So 100% next gen Tacoma will not be EV.

Most likely hybrid before EV and possibly PHEV, time will tell and Toyota will let us know for sure.
