Got the gatekeeper tailgate security thing yesterday. It actually fit over the hose clamp already there so I just left the clamp in place. Also used one of those anti-theft bolts for it. And it has a popnlock. And it's garaged at home and work, lol.

 

I just broke 30k not too long ago. I think it's about 800 over that.

 

Wow, I check mine everytime I park in the driveway see if anything is leaking.

Nothing yet *knock on wood* although I do have the 100k mile warranty

 

I've been smelling it for a couple days now. I thought it was just burning off the mud but it didn't go away so I took the skid off and found it. I'm going to call the dealer in a few minutes and see how long I need to be without my truck

Obviously its the front one I smell something everytime I walk past the front of my truck what did it smell like?


Looks like I'm going to be taking of my skid plate if it smells the same.

Yes I was smelling it but only after it was run. It smelled like gear oil.

 

^ o ok gotcha yeah I smell this burning at random times.

 

Not trying to scare you but it could be some fluid hitting the exhaust or just mud or dirt on the exhaust.

I dunno it smells in the front somewhere I made a thread and multiple people had the same smell.

I usually noticed it in the rain but now I do more frequently, I might take it in.

Then have the document it saying its normal so IF something does happen I can say well I brought it in and YOU guys said it was fine.


Edit, deff not mud btw if its fluid its from whatever is above it that is leaking.

I called the dealer and I'll be heading down there in a few moments. I'll let you guys know what's up. I'm almost positive it's where the drivers side cv goes into the diff, I guess that would be the axle seal?

 

Gotcha, it doesn't smell bad per say. Just smells like burning lol.

At the dealer. It's dripping now. I wish I had manual hubs so I didn't have to run it the 20 or so miles to the dealer.

Dealer replaced the seal under warranty. It didn't take long so I just waited for it. That was much easier than I expected.

 

Got it back from the dealer. The timing chain seal leaked. Thank God I am still under the powertrain warranty or else I would have been set back $605. FYI the timing chain seal leak is a TSB.

 

They have tried 3 times to seal mine on the 4 cyl and haven't yet. TGF my drivetrain warranty too. I think they need to swap the cover. It's aluminum and they have probably torqued the shit out of it where it isn't flat anymore and their rtv shit instead of an actual gasket won't hold the pressure. I do not dog this thing and it never sees more than 3k rpms. Fixin ta have them try again after I get some mileage out of this oil change since it's a seep and not a bad leak. BTW, using 5-30 as specified and a toyota filter so not any pressure relief spring tension in an aftermarket filter causing hi oil pressure to make this happen either. Truck rolls frwy speed at around 2600rpm so that's not it either. Sux tho, tired of seal problems on this truck dammit.


Trimming composite to give clearance for EZ Down, swapped in my black headlight filler strips and popped in some silverstar ultra bulbs in headlights...........
