So went to the dump the other day and realized that my truck is 100 lb over gvw ( 5700 lb) with just me and a passenger. I weigh 210, he's 245. Winch and brush guard weigh 150, rock sliders 160, rack 160, skid plate 70, bed mat 100 OBO 40. Somewhere there's 300 ish pounds unaccounted? The air in the tanks?

Full tank of fuel? Maybe the scales are off, when were they last calibrated?

Almost a 1/4 tank of fuel. I'm hoping that the scales are off, or they fudged the numbers to give me a better price.

Keep in mind that the scales don't have to be accurate to be precise. If you drop off 450 lbs of stuff at the dump and the scales give you a before/after of 10450lbs/10000lbs they are correct as far as precision and change in weight goes. Did they read zero with nothing on them?

Last time I went to the dump, the scales were way off. My guess is they don't care about a few hundred pounds either way or that their scale is set up to deal with heavier trucks

The scale is also very likely a culprit. While it may be accurate enough to determine the net weight it does not need to be accurate for gross so it may not be calibrated. Also weights and measures allows positive offset, as long as it is netted out for true GVW, so ask the dump rat what its zero offset is. But again they may not care.

If you want to get a more accurate weight, go find a CAT scale, or a closed DOT scale. Dump scales are not always maintained and zero calibrated. They "usually" don't care about vehicle weight, it is more about getting the difference before and after unloading.
Or, you and your buddy are shorting yourselves a few stones.

Only way to know the true weight is to weigh it on a CAT certified scale.

Scales are often off. I remember going to the dump with mine and i was close to my weight with some tube tvs Computers vacuums Microwave and other electronics.

Then when I worked in the restaurant we had the bowl lift arm from a huge Hobart mixer replaced the tech left the old one so I took it in for scrap metal. It had to weigh at least 60 or 70 pounds cus it wasn't easy to carry. They weigh it and say it's not even 20 pounds. Now I work out and did curls with dumbbells heavier I knew they were cheating.

There’s plenty of ways to know the actual weight without using a CAT scale. Hell you could build an archaic balance scale and stack weights.

Just remove each wheel and measure on a house scale, then add them up. Right? They are the only part touching the ground. Duh!
