Drivers' side seatbelt is extremely frayed. Do any companies make affordable and secure universal seatbelts with retraction systems?

There’s a company online that can refit a new strap in for less than half the cost of a new replacement.

You can buy a brand new OEM seatbelt (depending on your year) for about $150. I changed the one in my 1998 out with one from the dealer.

Not around here, I’ve got a pick/n/pull alert set and it’s rare that any come up and if they do you better be there before they open the day after they post it in the yard. most are bought up by make specific yards and they know what they have. Very little rust here so that’s probably the difference.

It is not some thing that sells, generally they get crushed with the vehicle after it's been picked over for worthwhile parts. Don't have a clue how many years they were alike but I'm betting it was quite a few.

I don't think I've ever seen any universal belts that I'd trust my life with!

I think '99 and later have an explosive pretensioner (there's a yellow plug on the retractor that ties into the SRS system that deploys the pretensioner in the event of a crash). I tried 3 or 4 places before I finally found someone that had a belt for my 99 in stock and was willing to ship it due to the pretensioner. Your best bet is most likely going to be a 99 or 2000 belt. Other years may fit but I never found anything online that convinced me enough to try it.

I've heard good things about safety restore and it may be the only option if you can't find a new belt or a used belt from a yard.

this is what I did and have no regrets. I tried the junkyard, but it's the same here... if there is a seatbelt left in the truck it's because it's already locked up from an accident or in no better condition than what you have. OEM belt installs in 5 minutes and no more sagging or snagging :)

Junkyard ones are still 25+ years old so they’ll probably just fray or go bad shortly. 1999 and above have explosive pretensioners so the seatbelts for those years are going to cost a bit more than pre 1998.
