You guys should forget about matt and ov tune. Pretty sure he has enough problems with those hot garbage turbo kits he sells.

All you Maggy boys should pool your money and buy a supercharger and send it to the kdmaxx guy and wait for him to make a tune for it. I have his tune on my truck now and it's amazing.

Definitely a step in the right direction! I'll admit, I was interested in getting the SC (because who wouldn't) but after seeing how limited the tune is, I'm not so certain anymore. If changes were made to the tune in a more performance based fashion, I would be interested again.

Doing as good as I can. School kicks my ass every week but it's slow progress! Hope things have been well on your end!

You are aware that Mat's software is how Kreg made the KDMax tune, right?

Lol, I am a KDMax tuner and friends with @PapaRee . We have talked about it. He’s busy as hell currently too but is definitely interested and has even reached out to magnuson himself (it’s in this thread a few pages back). I even said kdmax felt better than the SC.

I am this close to flying Kreg’s ass out to CO so we can make some magic happen on mine and develop a tune .

Knocking Matt and his work is getting a little tired here… Personally I’m grateful to him even though I’m a bit salty I had to update. I’m not going to sit here and complain about it though- his software helped me start my own side business. And 2.0 was badass too. At the end of the day he’s trying to provide a pretty badass solution no one else is doing with vftune and the turbos, and that was also the first run of turbos and first runs are always bound to have issues. I bet it will be a smoother process when he makes the second batch.

I’d shoot Ryan an email and tell him what you just said- if they make tuning improvements and fix all the garbage associated with stock mapping / allow potential for it to be tuned for performance you’ll be a customer. The more people that reach out the more likely it will happen, Matt even said Magnuson is listening which is good. As for school- I hear you! Just finished my last grad school final at 2am on Saturday. Ass kicking is right… hang in there man

Yes I am smart ass. But he clearly is done doing otf tuning for these trucks, hence the the reason he released the pro software.

I'm honestly not all that impressed with the towing performance after adding the supercharger. It is better, yes, but still not what I was hoping for. The truck is still absolutely gutless under 2500-3000rpm and really needs to rev out to make any kind of headway or acceleration. It still can't maintain speed in 5th gear going up slight inclines. I average 10mpg towing a boat/trailer that weighs a max of 3000lbs and likely closer to 2500lbs but that is doing 75mph also.

I live at 6000' so the stock truck only makes about 225hp/215ft lbs up here compared to sea level. Supercharger should have brought it up to roughly 300hp/270ft lbs and the difference is definitely noticeable driving around without a trailer.

Previous tow vehicles with this boat were a Ram 2500 diesel (370hp/800ft lbs) which is obviously not having any problems at all. The other was an Audi Q8 (335hp/369ft lbs) and not only did it tow better than the Tacoma but it got 14mpg driving the same route at 80mph with cruise control on.

Torque is MUCH more important than horsepower when it comes to towing. How is the supercharged Tacoma compared to the NA Tacoma on towing?

It is still a definite improvement over the stock towing experience. Probably close to how the stock Tacoma feels at sea level I'd guess, maybe a little better. Next weekend I'm driving out to see some friends that live at about 700' elevation so it should be fun to experience the truck get stronger as I get lower and then weaker on the drive home. I might see if I can hook up his boat for a drive and get a feel for that also.

??? was your Maggy Tune a .vft format or .vfc format? just curious - would be an indicator as to which version of software they are using for tune development. ?? can you identify what version your Flash Manager is ?

It's a V7 .vfc file and whatever version flash manager that you download from the Magnuson website. I also have a manual which solves 90% of 3rd gen problems.

So after spending $7K on a supercharger they sent you a decal you had already paid for and charged you $3.59 for the stamp? WTF? Is business that tight for them? Seriously rethinking this purchase. Harrop where are you??

Sounds like you need 4.88 gears. Adding more power doesn't solve thew double overdrive problem. It was one of the the first changes I made, and transformed how my Tacoma tows.

My magnuson kit is sitting in my garage ready to be installed just won’t have time until early June. But I’m feeling a bit of regret with these negative reviews. I don’t want to sell it, but it’s starting to cross my mind. Hope magnuson will resolve these issues.

I don't regret it. The shifting stuff could be better and even in the 100 miles of driving I did over the weekend it seems like it's getting better or closer to what the previous stock software was. I've handed the key to a couple co-workers who have driven stock 3rd gens and they have all come back with smiles.

I don't regret mine, don't get that impression. I was just hoping for a better improvement on the towing experience.

thanks - I will check their web page for the FM. Looks like all of us who got .vft tunes from them will have to update to the new FM in order to flash .vfc. No way around that - I would hope Magnuson would let those of us in that boat know before receiving a Tune we can't flash. I will get with Ryan and see if they are aware.

unless you are tuned with OVTune you won't know the difference and eventually Magnuson will get their stuff in order and fix the shifting logic in their tune - or a Pro Tuner with .vfc software will do it for them. In the mean time use more S mode if you are AT. D mode once you are on the Highway. All good. JMO.

If you can’t take a $4 hit, I’m not sure if it’s right for you. I let my dealer know at the same time I confirmed I received it and they refunded me the $4.

Lol that is asinine. I firmly believe you get what you pay for - that said when we’ve shelled out $7k none of us should be getting nickel and dimed after the fact.

Neither side is broke either way it’s just a dick move on the shipping in that particular instance that would leave a bad taste in my mouth if it happened to me.

I got my money back so I wasn’t nickel and dimed, but if I didn’t get the $4 back it wouldn’t be the end of my world. I mentioned it to the reseller with no expectation of them offering a refund to me and they stepped up and offered. So really, it’s the reseller that should be angry for losing $4 out of their margin. The fact that it happened to me shouldn’t be what keeps someone from buying their supercharger.

PSA - those of you with a .vft license need to update to the .vfc software. Magnuson is now using the new software and only releasing tunes in .vfc format. For those who don't have a .vft license (not original OVTune users) Magnuson will update your flash manager when they release a new (.vfc) tune to you.
