Okay, so when a hedgefund covers, they're also buying synthetic shares which would help drive the price up as well? I clearly didn't retain much through my readings

If there is 0 shares left to borrow, it usually just says 0.

 

The idea is they gotta buy all the synthetic shares and then the real ones they started shorting. In theory

 

If you create a fake share, you get to buy back a fake share. All of them in fact. Once that's done, then you can start cleaning up the original shorted shares when you bet at $3 that the company was going to bankrupt.

Every shorted share must be purchased back. And because it must, the demand increases, driving the price ever upwards.

 

Thank you for cementing in my brain what I thought I knew. Time to keep buying!

 

And this is where the weeds are for the $AMC $GME and it's like comparing Apples to Abacuses ...

Float is 366M...

There are a robust 250+ MILLION shares including the 45 million the dumped on the market a week ago...
To cover with...
It's not even comparable...

 

And this is what people fail to realize on reddit. particularly WSBnew and whatever. AMC and GME are NOT the same.

I wanted to add, that AMC will also rise when GME goes through MOASS. The other meme stocks like KOSS and BB will too.

 

TLDR even crazier..

Robbinghood...
was stepping inbetween retail buyers and sellers....
If you put an order in for $GME for 10 shares at $100...
They gave you 10 shares and then TOOK A SHORT POSITION for 10 shares...You have no idea this has happened. You have your shares (but really it's an IOU 10 shares....)
Their hope is $GME goes down from $100 to $40...You sell your "10" shares back and Robinhood just pockets the $600 difference and closes their synthetic short position...They were doing this for EVERY retail buy for ALL the meme stocks...Because in general (80%ish of the time) retail buyers make mistakes and buy stocks that are overpriced...Well this tactic was working great for $AAPL and $TSLA etc...but not so great for $GME, $AMC, $BB, $KOSS et al....
So as all of these stocks shot UP and people started selling Robinhood was now paying $150 for the shares they gave you for $100 and never bought...They were hemorrhaging cash. That's why they halted BUYING because they didn't want to compete with themselves for the shares they needed to close the open synthetic in house short positions..
They they colluded to DUMP shares to drive the price down...and their owners could only sell...and when they sell for a loss Robinhood didn't need to fill an order...they just washed their synthetic positions...
Hence their need for a $3 BILLION dollar bail out...
It's fucking insane that this company is still in business and people still use them...
and they are having an IPO...why would you buy stock in this company?
