Is my latch linkage installed wrong? *Pics* SnugTop Supersport

Howdy all

My cap came in tough shape. The latches were seized, linkage was bent, no key, etc.

I replaced everything, but the passenger’s side latch linkage keeps popping out as shown

It’s assembled the same way it came, was something done wrong that causes this?

For starters I would assume the plastic sleeve on the rod where it meets that housing on the latch mechanism (second photo) would make more sense on the other side of that sleeve

doesn’t make the adjusting nut any easier to get at though

 

It may just be the camera angle but the rod looks bent where it shouldn't be and not bent enough where it should be.

The part that goes into the handle should be 90 degrees like the one on the left side of the picture and the rod should be straight along the run (like the left side). I would pull it out and correct that and if it still pops out them put a steel spring nut on the back of the rod where it goes through the nylon bushing. This is not the correct size but this is the type of fastener that is on mine to keep the rod from falling out :

 

must be the angle, the bars are new and comparable to the old ones it came with.

that looks like a good solution thanks. Do you happen to know what size the rod is? Need to buy a lil caliper to measure

Just pop one of the rods off and take it into Home Depot with you, you can find those push on retainers at regular hardware stores

 

This; they're in the hardware section in the drawers. Lowe's sells them too if you don't have a HD nearby.

 

The million dollar question is how to adjust the nut on the rod without pulling the rod forcibly from the metal clamshell it sits in?

 

I'm not sure what you're talking about and there are various styles out there depending on which manufacturer you went with (which model, which supplier they were using at the time or what they could get, etc). In the OP's picture, it looks like there is an adjustment nut (see red arrow). If you have a picture of yours showing what you are talking about maybe someone will have an idea that may be able to help you.
