@PapaRee Interesting. I am getting this all the time and was going to ask, but figured it was a Toyota issue that just can't be solved. Perfect example is slowing down to turn up my driveway. I will slow to 2-5 mph and then give it slight throttle to go up my inclined driveway. I get a jolting THUD of a shift and then it starts moving. I can't tell what it's doing (i.e. 2->1->2?, or 1->2->1, etc), but it's pretty jolty. It happens in situations where I slow way down but not quite to a stop, and then give it light throttle. Another example would be slowing for a red light but then it changes to green right before stopping all the way.

I've been tempted to throw on my VeePeek and datalog on OBDFusion, but I anticipate that the change is too quick to be captured on the Gear metric on the phone screen, given the refresh rate of the wifi data.

Anyway, not a big deal, but just curious since you mentioned it was fixed for a while.

Also interested in hearing more about this, I have the same "issue"...just feels like maybe it's not downshifting as fast as I am decelerating.

I think what you are talking about, all tacoma's do that when you are slowing down then suddenly accelerate.
The clunk that was fixed was different.
If you think that what you are having is not normal and wasn't there before the tune, PM me and I will help you work on your specific tune.

Are you guys tuned? I had this issue stock and it was extremely annoying. It was one the hardest things to adapt to and even still, most of the time in spite of my best effort, couldn’t avoid it. I’m not sure when it went away (been through A LOT of tunes), but KDMAX 6.0 doesn’t have it on my truck.

Edit: As Kreg said, the issue that was being discussed though is different than what you guys are talking about. The issue was the clunk that you get when you slow down, wether or not you accelerate before the complete stop

I had both issues and they are now both gone

What I see is the premature downshift to 3rd at 0 and little throttle (coasting), causing that engine braking and losing speed for no reason. Pressing accelerator induces that event. This is Not only on KDMAX, other tunes have it. I suspect this is due to opt torque maps.
I had to lower downshift point on my just for it

Yes, KDMAX 6.0 here. To be fair, I don't know if it used to do it before the tune, as I barely drove it before I did it.

Agreed that the issue Kreg mentioned was addressed sounds different. As you said, this only happens if you are almost to a stop and then give it some throttle.

Just so you guys know, that low speed on off on throttle clunk happens in the MT as well. It also causes a lunging.

I think it's a drive line lash issue, slip joint, and/or leaf spring combination.

I am inclined to agree with you. That's is what it feels like. A light touch on the throttle before pressing it when speeding up is the answer.

Here is what I notice about tip in.

regular aggressive throttle- this is for people who like to drive fast . This becomes extremely difficult to drive in stop to traffic, hook up trailers, drive in snow/sand.

LT- this is a good aggressive throttle if your truck weighs a lot. If you have full armor and like to feel the truck pull straight off the line start here.

SLT- Stock truck? This is for you. A really nice feel off the line that is just enough power to get you say yeeeehawwww.

Wife tip- as close to stock as you can get with out being well… stock

ECT tip is is increased--more than in Drive.
But it is the same in all the tunes.

So I skimmed the first few pages of this thread and didn’t find an answer in the original ovtune thread. I have the handheld flasher for my 2017. Is there any option for this setup?

I don't have a file for the handheld.
But if you have a file that I can edit, you can send it to me via PM and I can adjust whatever I can.
I am not sure if this is possible, but I will try my best.

Now I know why I still enjoy it, even more, using ECT. I used it today all the time I was driving and it actually put a little "fun" back in the driving it.
