So, I often troll around Craigslist at work looking for Tacomas and stuff for my truck. I've recently come upon 3 different used car and Toyota dealers in my area selling Off Road labelled Tacomas that don't have hood scoops. White, Silver and Indigo Ink- and all at different places. What's up with that? I figure one maybe, but three??? So, I was wondering if there was a year when the hood scoop was not a piece of standard equiment?

The hood scoop is part of the TRD Sport package, not the TRD Off Road package.

^ You got it. You will see a lot of people on here running the Off Road w/ a scoop, but they all purchased them aftermarket. Stock, TRD Sport is the only model that comes with a scoop

Off Road TRDs come with equipment that increase the truck's ability off road.

Sport TRDs come with things that make it 'look' a certain way, but do not increase its drivability off road.

    The hood scoop is
    1) Fake (does not bring air into the engine).
    2) Obscures over-the-hood visibility which is so key when climbing steep grades, off road.

So, the hood scoop comes only on Sport TRDs... whose owners like their truck to 'look' that way.

My scoop really doesn't throw me off when I am offroad... The only minor complaint that I have is that it is EXCELLENT at guiding sunlight directly into your eyes.

I like how the scoop looks..But since it is non-functional I can't have it.

agreed. usually when the scoop becomes a visibility issue offroad, the sides of the hood are also an issue therefore the scoop is not the only issue....the sun is an evil bastard!!!

If that was an option and would not look super ghetto on our rigs... Would definitely do it if I could afford it!
