I had the 3.4 MT in my 2000 Taco, scooted along pretty decent.

1993 T-100 SR5 4x4; 3.slow/5-speed stick with less than 94K as of February 2021 (Thank you, Carfax)! According to the Carfax report, this truck had less than 55K miles in 2006 and about 80K when the third and current owner bought it in 2020, so it had really low miles for most of its life but now the current owner is really racking them up...

I know what everybody is thinking; How could this be a Toyota? Well, under the skin, it is! It started life as a very rusty 1929 Plymouth sedan, but it had a title and it wasn't too far gone to use as the basis for a project, so the owner bought it...

The owner also bought a 1982 Toyota 4x4 that had been severely damaged in a fire; The cab was gutted, but the engine and the rest of the drivetrain were all good!

This unique vehicle utilizes the original body and frame, but the engine, transmission, and differentials are from the 1982 Toyota pickup! The engine is a 22R mated to a 5-speed manual, and the owner told me that the vehicle is light enough that the engine does not feel underpowered...

The vehicle is titled as a 1929 Plymouth, which means that even in California it is exempt from emissions testing, but it has one of the most reliable powertrains on the planet; Doesn't get much better than that!

And this is what the Plymouth looked like when he bought it; I have been seeing this thing at local car shows for over a decade (I believe I first saw it in the summer 2009), but I never had the opportunity to chat with the owner until this particular car show last Sunday...

    SundayJuly11th2021 1092.jpg

As a result, I assumed it was an uncommon Plymouth-branded version of a Dodge pickup truck, mounted on the frame of a Jeep or another newer 4x4 (K5 Blazers seem to be popular for this sort of thing)! The body has been modified into that of a regular cab pickup (remember, this used to be a sedan), and I forgot to ask where the bed came from (likely a Ford Model A bed with Plymouth stenciled on the tailgate); Features retained from the Toyota donor truck include power brakes (with front disc) and a fully operational 4WD system!

Obviously, a 1982 Toyota pickup is going to be pretty basic by 21st century standards, but by 1929 standards it is a Rolls-Royce compared to the old Plymouth in stock form!

This unique creation has the following modern upgrades over the stock 1929 Plymouth...

    • Power front disc/rear drum brakes (No power steering)
    • 4-wheel drive
    • 5-speed synchronized transmission
    • Heat
    • Tachometer
    • Tilt steering column
    • Seatbelts!

Like I said, this thing’s been on the show circuit in my area for at least 12 years, and I’ve gotten plenty of pictures of it; However, I never had the opportunity to chat with the owner until this show last Sunday and was surprised to find out it was pretty much a Toyota truck underneath!
