I had to stop bringing my actual camera on most trail runs because it was getting beat to crap, then again its a bigger/heavier DSLR. Just be very cautious with changing out the lenses, I can tell you from experience cleaning sensors is no fun lol. Especially when you scratch one on a camera worth more than your truck and that has to get sent to Sweden for repair :spending: (<--luckily it was the company's credit card)

I stopped bringing my camera for the longest time cause I had sensor issues from getting shit in there. I only have a lowly T4i but I'm gonna start bringing it again because Im going to buy a 5Dsr for my non so rough photo work.

Yeah I think a dedicated trail DSLR is the way to go, something not quite so fancy that you'll be upset if it gets a little beat up. I was thinking too about getting a higher end point and shoot for stuff like that, but any decent point and shoot that doesn't take images that look like they were made digitally in 1998 is bukoo bucks.

An entry level DSLR is better quality and cheaper, I would probably just try and avoid changing lenses too much

My canon G16 seems to be surviving, but 99% of my pics are on my phone.

I've settled to leaving my 28-90mm on it the entire time and I'm not worried about the T4i being fairly rugged otherwise. The 5Dsr is a bit higher budget and I'd worry about it. But if I'm going to the effort of taking pics while on a trip I want RAW capture so I can process them to my liking afterward. And the image sensor even in a rebel like you said is far and away better than most point and shoots. It's not worth it otherwise, the results are displeasing.

yeah you can get an entry level DSLR for that price or even less, resolution might not be quite the same but unless you're going to be making poster size prints, 20+ megapixels isn't all its cracked up to be. Just means you end up using way more space on your computer/backup drives to store files.

Having a good lens on a DSLR is worth more image-quality wise than a high pixel sensor imo

I don't think this one has been used much. I bought it from a lady in Georgia who received new it as a gift from her brother. It turns out that her husband grew up a few blocks away. Small world.

I would be happy with picking the most versatile lens and sticking with it. I don't have a lot of money invested if something happens to it on the trail. Some years ago I had a nice camera that I let one of my kids borrow. He must have dropped it because it never was the same.

I remember when I was about 14 yrs old, my dad bought his first DSLR and was so excited with it he was taking pics of everything for weeks. One day he decided to get artsy I guess, he wanted to stand behind the hockey net I had in the garage while my friend and I shot hockey pucks at it.

You can guess how that ended up...he stood too close and my friend shot a puck dead center to the lens and destroyed the whole camera lol. He was so pissed

I remember my mom being happy about it because she hated the look of the digital prints that were going into the family album after he got the camera, those early DSLRs couldn't capture color very well, never mind how low the resolution in general was.

The thing that I really want is a Skydio 2 drone. They are now shipping on a regular basis.

DJI came out with a competing model, so the crazy demand is starting to come back to earth.

yeah drone tech is nuts nowadays. A friend of mine that I graduated from college with saw early on in 2011 where that was headed, started up his own drone video company. Built a few massive ones that can carry big video cameras. He's killing it now doing aerial stuff for commercials and movies.

A local friend of mine from Cruiser World, a recent college grad and just starting out, got the idea to get a drone and film construction sites to provide progress reports to the owners and investors. The little hobby is turning into quite a business.

My youngest kid is being trained by the Fire Department to fly some type of specialized drone into a big industrial fire.

No, I haven't taken it yet but the gas in the tank is 3 years old that is a little concerning. I want it to pass on the 1st shot and not have to deal with going back.

Friend wanted a quickie pic before our scheduled photo shoot. So I told him to take the best damn phone pic he could and send it to me. TBH, I'm not disappointed with the results of editing a phone pic, but I also won't be putting my name on it haha.
