Nice, thanks! I was purely curious but it’ll be neat to see over time with some votes!

Good to know! I told my wife about the “Wife tip” and she had a good laugh.
Personally I’m starting on LT thinking it would be light enough but woah it’s pretty much a whole different world than OVTune 2.0 which I think was more stock like than anything. I also have zero added weight, and stockish tires (265/70/17) that are P rated rather than the C class BFG’s I had so they should weigh closer to stock as well. And it scoots and spins that’s for sure!

If I don’t get used to it I may go SLT considering my setup, but right now I’m actually enjoying it! I live in Kansas and do a lot of highway and rural driving with only occasional “big city” slow stop and go traffic thank goodness. So I could probably live with it as-is but if I still worked downtown or went through parking garages I could see how it could get annoying.

#1 thing that’s going to take getting used to other than the tip in - is the lack of the VTEC 3,500 RPM wake-up push present in stock and 2.0. It’s so much more linear but I slightly miss that push back in the seat when it kicks in feel but overall it’s so - so much smoother with KDMax and a lot more predictable. I don’t have to feel like I pull out in to traffic and have to wait 3-4 seconds before the whoosh of power hits. A lot more confident merging is how I think this will go down. Awesome that it was finally able to be smoothed out!

It’s no 5.7L Tundra or LS1 but it IS what this 3.5 SHOULD be and wasn’t. I know a few more Tacoma folk (one is 04B04 just like mine and already has vF Tuner) and I’m absolutely going to be sending this thread their way.

    Great work!

Just getting the limiter off for us with 5.29s is already worth the asking price but its more than just that. Got the truck to 90+ (Sure. On a closed course of course)
    That is all. Carry on

New member here. I am totally new to tuning and may have a local guy put the KDMAX tune in my truck. It’s a stock 2018 Pro and I can’t take the shifting issues anymore. I will keep it stock suspension and may go up slightly in tire size but for the most part stay stock. can anyone give me suggestions on which tune to put in the truck? It looks like there are many variations and options within the KDMAX setup. 70% city driving. Thanks for any input!

Wifetip. Stock all around? By slightly I’m guessing from 265/70 to 265/75?

    Welcome to TW.

I think all will agree that KDMAX 6.0 outshines prior KDMAX variants. You’re going to get a ton of different suggestions on tip in though. Most tuners will let you drive your truck around so you can provide your initial impression of whatever you decided to go with initially. If you ask them to try a different tip in setting, I’m sure they’ll take care of you.

Yes. Stock all around and that is probably as big of a tire as I would go. It’s a daily driver and I tow the boat with it on occasion. I have a Jeep that I wheel some or used too. Time...

And “tip in” is throttle response correct? I told you I was new to this. Jeep guy here.

No worries… yeah, tip-in is the term used to describe how the truck reacts to initial travel of the go pedal

Cool. Thanks guys. I hope to meet up with a local tuner this weekend and get this truck right.

I'm going to go against the flow here and suggest LT. it is a bit more agressive, but is easy to get accustomed to. I was going to get the SLT and my tuner suggested I try the LT first. Glad I did. I have had my Gen Coupe tuned, as well as my truck, and what will happen, no matter what, is you will get used to the tune and it will eventually feel normal, so go bigger.

Since you are on the more aggressive front what do you think about the high octane vs the 87? Worth the extra in fuel costs. I will definitely try as many variations as I can before settling since I will be having someone tune it and i will not be going back and forth on tunes.

Not who you quoted but I would highly recommend using the regular tune - and then you can still run Premium fuel as price allows as the tune can learn up to 90 octane as is.

But the premium tune cannot learn backwards from 91 down to 87.

So if you don’t have the ability to flash it yourself. The regular tune gets my vote personally. I just flashed it on Sunday and have 91 in my tank still from a prior OVTune but just starting out it still feels stronger on regular than my previous tune did on premium for what it’s worth. Though it will learn with some miles that I’ve got premium in there still but plan to use 87 next time I go fill up.

This way you can run anything from 85-90 and it will learn. Rather than 91-93 or so with no ability to go backwards when prices skyrocket.
