perhaps he didn’t see the drain plug on the back and split the case to drain the oil. 2C7B2B20-F8D2-438C-B6FB-668398955E99.jpg

So after a while of driving around these are the things I've notices with this swap.

    1. the cab is more noisy and on long highway drives smells like gear oil.
    • I don't care about the noise as i did not seal the hole properly yet.
    • the gear oil smell I'll have to check some day not to worried as there is nothing on the driveway
    2. now hear is the thing, I never tried the ATRAC after the swap but now that I have I realize its dose not work anymore.

Question: is inop. ATRAC a by product of the swap? Thanks in advance...

I noticed the gear oil smell thing as well on my maiden voyage last weekend but only when I put it in 4LO. No fluid anywhere so I’m not too worried either. My only guess was I didn’t put the vent hose onto the shifter all the way but I would’ve sworn I did.

This is the first I'm hearing of this..
Ok the truck came with ADD and I have done the swap. nothing else. 4wd ecu is all unpluged, lights on dash for 4lo and 4wd are working when i move the shift levers, and thats all I've done so far...

if the ADD detection switch is not wired to the skid control ECU it will not function. The truck needs to be in 4lo for it to engage, so it needs to see ADD switch for 4wd and 4lo switch from transfer case.

yes, otherwise the skid control ECU will never know it’s in 4wd

Gotcha. This is if you want the attrac to work? Or is this just a manual thing?
Edit: think I missed the atrac piece. I have an sr5 so don’t have those features. Why this is all new to me.

it would only be applicable for the TRD off-road trucks. Though I believe the “trac” mode for the sports as well is different between 2 and 4wd modes. I would page David K but we don’t need any more clowns in the circus.

Let me chime in here

My mechanic mentioned that he was not 100% sure that we can unplug the 4wd ECU. I was all 'oh yes its np' :argue:

    I have the TRD off-road with this A-TRAC button.:anonymous:

It is a totally useless 'feature' from what I have come to figure out. I tried to use this 'feature' many times. It never worked to get me unstuck. :bananadead: I stopped using it years ago and will never use it again.

Can I now remove the A-TRAC button, as I have done the A-TRAC delete? :cookiemonster:

I mean technically it's progress right?

Made a dolly to easily move it around and keep it upright so I can drain it and work on it.

There are 2 layers of metal that make up the bottom of my truck. Getting the seal to be perfect will be much easier with 1 layer.

    :cookiemonster:

The seal will be made out of a 6" collapsible silicone dog dish

Nice and cheap, if we mess it up, I can get another one in minutes. Silicone will resist the heat, and oils of everything. Should be an easy solution.

I read that as he has left the ADD in place and only swapped the transfer case. If that were the case, then 4WD isn't even functional unless the ADD collar is locked to the engaged position.

ATRAC should work otherwise. My 4Runner, being a 2003, only has TRAC but it does work just fine since the swap.

Sorry I forgot that I replaced the front diff tube with the fj no disconnect one so there is no add on the truck
