You don't ask. You hang it and when she says "Is that where you want it" you say "no, I just put it there until you tell me where to put it". It's a win-win :D

Next time you and Michelle are up this way, stop over. She'll have to see my 2 mounts in the living room. She'll see that they give the room character.

Starting to get to work more on my shot process and it’s really paying dividends. Being new to archery I just loved shooting so much I was pretty willy nilly about my shot but getting better each week. Now I have some steps I say on EVERY shot in the same EXACT order and man, it’s a major improvement.

Curious if those of you that hunt archery find that you have time to go through this process out in the field or if you shorten it or what. I really only say 6 things to myself when shooting as small reminders so it’s not taking long at all.

    Thanks in advance.

While I’m not taking the exact approach, but similar. Last year was my first for archery. When practicing I made sure I identified exactly where my release hand goes on my face, inhale draw, hold, release.

here’s what I found to be the most challenging when I shot my mule deer: you’ll be surprised how much adrenaline will give you the shakes.. then combine that with drawing and holding for way longer than I had practiced. This year I’m spending much more time drawing and holding until near failure then taking the shot. Last year I would run a half mile then come back and shoot a half dozen arrows and that helped me get my breathing under control.

good luck dude! I found last year that it’s not about a short amount of time in the ritual, it’s actually more time than I had intended to have lol

I call these my "checks" and I go threw them EVERY time I practice. Longer you shoot, you'll notice your six things, going to down to just a few. As a hunter you always will want "perfect" shot to where you can go through them every time, but that's not reality, but what you want is when the moment comes you've shot enough you don't have to think about checks. Perfect shot, they'll come in, let you draw, turn broadside or slight quartering away within 5 seconds, and stand there until you shoot.

As far as practice go, go through your mental check, but practice standing, kneeling, sitting, having to lean forward or twist in all positions... I actually shot an axis sitting Indian style, bedded down and had to wait for it to stand up, and it low because of a new position and leaning forward to avoid brush. Weird hunt but got it done. And if you're hunting in a blind, I've been drawn back on whitetail, it spooked, and ran a little away from feeder, and I had to turn 90 degrees without moving the chair that squeaked. Archery is all about practice practice practice. Good Luck, hope you get it done!

I have taught both boys to shoot guns and bows.as well as baseball, golf, and basketball..with a bow my two things for them was piviot at the waist to shoot down from a stand and FOLLOW THRU. All sports and shooting requires good follow thru or you can pull your head.told them to see the shot thru the scope. or ask if they saw the wad fall with a shotgun etc...they both have been in follow thru and watched an arrow bury in the crease behind a deer shoulder:thumbsup:

Been working seated and kneeling lately as well. I think you describe a pretty common situation where the plan changes at the wrong time, lol. Thanks for the insights!

Yep, when you are sitting.. watch that knee and make sure it doesn’t touch the cam. Ask me how I know :anonymous: missed a muley last year because of it
