Thinking on going back to a tacoma

Stay away from all Tacoma’s

 

I don't get it how come people seem to have all of these problems? I get in turn the key the truck starts. It's a 6 speed manual it does require some bit of intelligence to change gears but that is fairly easy to over come. This is Toyota truck #4 the previous ones all had 300+K on them. Yes I did have to replace the clutch in a used one at 203K and my 2011 needed a wheel bearing at 83K so I guess that's some peoples ideal of "problems". Trucks backup easier than a trailer. Drive more whine less.

 

Oh that must be the nose dive some people are talking about.

 

OP Joking! I’m driving my Tacoma till the wheels fall off. Said it before and I’ll say it again. Happiness is in the eye of the beholder. Whatever you get enjoy it.

 

Hes talking about the 2016's maybe 17s where the rear diff was leaking oil and exploded going down the road.

 

I'll add that it's very hard to get dirt to come off the 3rd gen door panels.
Just another thing to take into consideration.
The struggle is real.

You silly fan-boy. Always defending your precious 3rd gen no matter how many times you push the accelerator and it goes, push the brake and it stops, or the fact that condensate water pours out all over your driveway. How about the fact that you have to change your tires out every 60k miles or so? Did you know the brake pads only last 100k? Did you even consider the fact that you could sell your Tacoma after 3 years and 36,000 miles for more than you paid for it new? No. Because you're too busy being a fan boy.

^This right here, or the suggested trailer route. I bought a project house some years ago. Traded my '05 OR for a new, soulless full-size Silverado. The full size box is far more convenient if you regularly haul large items, especially for drywall and any other 4x8 sheets of whatever. I did regret giving up my Taco though and would opt for a full size beater if I could have a do-over. But if you're just hauling the occasional garden supplies etc, then I guess it's really just a personal choice between the 4R and the Taco

 

I vote buy a small trailer and keep the 4Runner.

 

I don’t have any leaks or vibrations, same with 3 of my buddies with 3rd gens.

You will not be disappointed with an MT 3rd gen taco for sure.

 

they sell 25K Tacomas a month. About 50 come here with imagined problems. About 10 have real problems. The other 40 are either unrealistic expectations or they didn't test drive or they are just so gullible they bought something they did not want.
Usually when someone has vehicle problems they tell the internet. Read a normal day's posts here... how many actually talk about problems and how many talk about mods and having fun? The ratio is probably 90-10. The other shit is just questions.
Test drive then test drive again.

 

The automatics in these latest 3rd gen tacoma's don't suck. I think many don't give them much chance to learn the driver's habits properly. Takes a number of miles right from the get-go by the same driver. I can't ask for a better performing auto in my 2020 sr5. It shifts right on cue to the changing road conditions, and delivers decent fuel economy just like the window sticker claims.

 

Now i have no clue what this is about....and i drive on a 2 mile nasty dirt road nearly everyday.

 

Some would consider not shifting like a GTI a good thing with their DSG issues

 

You like the one you have and it’s not prone to any problems? Don’t turn your back on that gift horse. Get the trailer. You can always sell it later. Or call for delivery, lumber yards and soil/stone yards make house calls.

 

I work in an office of 15 people and 7 drive pickups, and most use the bed less than 1% of the time. But that 1% where it comes in handy is priceless. Sure I could rent or buy a trailer, or rent a pickup for the times when I need to haul something, but having it at my finger tips without any real drawback is worth it.

I had a Frontier from 05-10, traded it for a Mazda 3 because we had a kid on the way. I loved my Mazda, but I am more than happy having having a truck again.
