My son is so attached to calling his Tacoma a truck he calls the car wash a truck wash when he is taking the Tacoma there.

The aussies really have the best pickup truck beds out there. I desire a drop side bed like most of their trucks get. I'd even settle for a UTE with a drop side bed.

"Pickup" is more specific than "truck." The people that would use "pickup" (to describe a Tacoma, for example) in preference to "truck" would be those familiar with other kinds of trucks. The typical suburbanite would not have that familiarity, hence his use of the catchall "truck" for his Tacoma.

Pickup. Because it's easier to get fat chicks with it.

Like, how do you know that words mean anything at all? What’s the value of consciousness? Are we all just empty signifiers? Who am I? Who am I? Who am I?

My wife can tell you the exact spot. Born in 29 Palms, CA. Grade school, Lived in Rochester, NY. High School in Tuscaloosa, AL. Went to school at 'Bama (Roll Tide!) while her parents were back in Rochester. So drove home for Breaks. The funniest part is her accent flips from NY to Southern Bell depending on who she is talking to!

Rig seems to be southern. Not sure, but I always called my FJ40, FJ60, Jeep, Pickup by those names. Bubba would call his 'rig' didn't matter if JK, Ram, Chevy it was always "ma rig" Not sure if southern or Bubba. I think of "Rig" to denote a tractor/trailer combo. My Ford Transit Cargo Van (high roof, extended) was often mistaken for a freight expeditor. Yes, in the south I'd hear "nice rig". Twin-turbo 3.5L Ecoboost, empty van, it was fast!

It's too early in the day for the Daily Existential Crisis.

Wish Friday was as early as these Friday threads.

Words are just grunts that we've collectively agreed to assign a meaning.

I never really understood the people who referred to SUVs as trucks. To me a truck basically has a cab separate from the rest of the body and has a frame (insert comments about the Ridgeline here). Anything else is basically an SUV or van. I had an old boss that would refer to his Ford Escape as a truck as well which was wrong on multiple levels.

Things sound so much “dumber” on the internet. You could be on a hike with some friends and have this thread conversation about “why do we even call it a pickup?” and not feel like an imbecile. But when you actually read what you’re saying, well...

And it’s never too early in my week to stare into the void.

As an Ohio transplant to Oklahoma, I have literally had the "soda" vs "pop" discussion many times with fellow bored Airmen. And it's just as dumb and would result in 10+ pages if posted on TW.
