    Hey guys.

So I was greasing this zerk and the rubber below got all swollen. Eventually it all came out bellow the rubber but I’m not sure if I tore it or not. Do I need a new ball joint? Thanks.

IMO if the rubber isn't torn I would keep an eye on it and limit the pumps of grease too two or three. The rubber is a dust cover and if over filled the grease needs to go some where.

Some grease boots have a tiny hole on the bottom opposite the zerk so the old grease can get purged. If you haven't done the other side yet, I'd check for one.

All the grease you pump in has to exit somewhere. Wipe away the excess grease and visually check for a torn boot? :notsure: From what I see on Dirt King's web site, it's a standard Tacoma lower ball joint available from multiple vendors common across 2005-2021 Tacomas. Dirt King uses Moog.

Looks like you may have pumped a bit too much grease in there.

my dirt kings constantly made a mess of my wheel wells. The ball joints used those boots with the recess to prevent overfill, which translates to a perfect spot for grease to seep.

    Thanks guys.
So I cleaned it up and there’s a small tear at the bottom I think. I’m drunk.

also if it’s torn what do I do?can I melt it together with a lighter?

I installed them back in august. So I’d say about 15,000 miles. They are great, completely change the way the vehicle handles.

I just sold a set off my truck after 10k miles and I was very happy with them. Definitely firms up the feel of the truck off road plus they are bomb-proof by the looks of things.

I will say that my ball joints felt loose when i took them off the truck though even though I kept them greased regularly but didn't seem to negatively impact performance while installed
